Starling Marte: LF 3 for 5; 1 SB; Francisco Lindor#: SS 1 for 4; 2 RBIs; 2 Ks; Juan Soto: RF 0 for 4; 2 Ks; Pete Alonso: 1B 0 for 3; 1 walk; Brandon Nimmo: DH 0 for 2; 1 run; 1 walk; Mark Vientos: 3B 0 for 2; Ronny Mauricio#: PH-2B 2 for 2; 1 run; Tyrone Taylor: CF 0 for 2; 1 K; Brett Baty*: PH-3B 1 for 2; Jeff McNeil*: 2B-CF 2 for 4; 1 run; 1 RBI; 1 K; Hayden Senger: C 1 for 3; 1 run; Luis Torrens: PH 0 for 1; 1 K; Chris Devenski: 2 innings; no runs; 1 hit; 2 Ks; Zach Pop: (L, 0-1) 1.1 innings; 3 runs; 3 ERs; 5 hits; 1 HR; Brandon Waddell*: 2.2 innings; 2 runs; 2 ERs; 3 hits; 1 HR; 2 Ks; Huascar Brazobán: 1 inning; 1 run; 1 ER; 2 hits; 1 walk; 2 Ks; Rico Garcia: 2 innings; no runs; 1 hit; 2 Ks;
Brian Joura Mets 360: "With all of the injuries to the rotation, the Mets had to run a bullpen game. Chris Devenski started and threw two hitless innings. Next up was [Zach] Pop, who the Mets had just signed to an MLB deal. Pop gives up a solo homer and a 118-mph double en route to giving up 3 ER in 1.1 IP."
NY Post: The
Mets, after falling into a five-run hole in the middle innings — they were
forced into a bullpen game for the second time in the series with the rotation
depleted — were right there with a shot in the seventh, trailing by two runs,
when Juan Soto hit a sinking line drive to left field with Francisco Lindor on
first base and nobody out. Bellinger snatched the ball with a shoestring
catch and turned it into a double play that changed the game’s momentum.
David Lennon Newsday: "If not for Bellinger’s defensive brilliance, Fried coming up big when it counted most and the Mets committing a few baserunning blunders, this one actually could have gone Mendoza’s way. But the Yankees remembered their winning formula just in time, along with leaning on Aaron Judge, who had a two-run homer (No. 33) and three RBIs. Judge also made a run-saving diving catch in the sixth."
NY Post Sports+: The Yankees got a much-needed win, but the Mets won something more from this Subway Series duel. The Mets have begun to distance themselves from the disastrous stretch of 14 losses in 17 games, taking a series at home this week from both the Brewers and Yankees. They did so with a patchwork pitching staff that is now down to three traditional starting pitchers: Frankie Montas, David Peterson and Clay Holmes.

Today in Mets History Per Ultimatemets.com:
Born on this date:
- Bob Gallagher (1948)
- Tommy Moore (1948)
- Tim Teufel (1958)
- Andy Green (1977)
- John Buck (1980)
1964 | In the only All-Star Game ever played at Shea Stadium, the National League evens the all-time series at 18 victories for each circuit by beating the AL, 7-4, with a dramatic ninth-inning rally which includes a three-run homer by Phillies slugger Johnny Callison. Home team second baseman Ron Hunt becomes the first Mets player selected as a starter in the Midsummer Classic. |
2008 | After taking a nine-run lead into the sixth inning, the Mets hold on to beat the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park, 10-9. The game is eerily similar to a 1992 contest, also played in Philadelphia, that caused Hall of Fame announcer Bob Murphy to remark after the final out, "they win the damn thing by a score of 10 to 9!" |
2012 | Bryce Harper becomes the youngest position player to make an All-Star team when he is named to replace Miami's Giancarlo Stanton, who is unable to participate because of an injury. The 19 year-old Nationals outfielder, who is older than hurlers Dwight Gooden (Mets) and Bob Feller (Indians) when they played in their first Midsummer Classics, surpasses backstop Butch Wynegar (Twins) as the youngest non-pitcher to be selected. |
1993: Mets P Bret Saberhagen throws a firecracker under a table near reporters at Shea Stadium, but no one is hurt.
