Buffalo, NY - Behind superb pitching again, the Syracuse Mets beat the Buffalo Bisons, 2-1, on Thursday night at Sahlen Field. Mets starting pitcher Brandon Sproat starred, tying a Triple-A career high with nine strikeouts while setting a new career high with 95 pitches thrown in five scoreless innings. With the win, the Mets have now won nine of their last ten games and are tied for first place in the International League second half standings.

Syracuse (54-51, 23-7) struck first in the top of the second inning. With one out, Luke Ritter walked. Luis De Los Santos followed with a double to the left-field wall that scored Ritter for a 1-0 lead.

The Mets added an insurance run in the top of the eighth. Luis De Los Santos led off with a walk and scored when Yonny Hernandez lined a ball to left field that was misplayed by the Bisons defense, allowing De Los Santos to score from first for a 2-0 advantage.

Buffalo (40-61, 10-18) trimmed the Syracuse lead in the bottom of the eighth. Buddy Kennedy doubled and moved to third base on a Riley Tirotta fly out to center field. Orelvis Martinez followed with a double that scored Kennedy to make it a 2-1 ballgame.

That's as close as the Bisons would get though. After Sproat pitched five scoreless innings, Justin Garza pitched an inning and two-thirds scoreless, Richard Lovelady allowed the one run in the eighth, but Julian Merryweather retired both batters he faced, and Kevin Herget pitched a scoreless ninth.

Syracuse and Buffalo continue their six-game series with the fourth game on Friday night. Right-hander Justin Hagenman is scheduled to start on the mound for the Mets. First pitch is slated for 6:35 p.m.
