Syracuse, NY – Behind a career night by Nolan McLean, the Syracuse Mets beat the Omaha Storm Chasers, 6-2, for their fourth straight victory, on Thursday night at NBT Bank Stadium. McLean set a new career high with seven and one-third innings pitched.
Omaha (7-17, 38-60) jumped out to an early lead in the top of the second inning with an RBI double by Peyton Wilson and an RBI single from Nick Pratto, giving the Storm Chasers a 2-0 lead.
In the bottom of the third, Syracuse (49-50, 18-6) battled right back. With one out, Gilberto Celestino and Jared Young singled to put two runners on base. Then, Joey Meneses smacked a three-run homer to put the Mets ahead, 3-2.
The offense kept rolling in the fourth when Luke Ritter doubled and Yonny Hernandez ripped an RBI single, stretching the lead to 4-2.
In the eighth, Syracuse added some cushion. With two outs, Ritter singled, Hernandez was hit by a pitch, and Celestino worked a walk to load the bases. Next, Young drove in a pair with a two-run single and gave the Mets a 6-2 lead.
On the mound, McLean pitched a career-high seven and one-third innings, allowed two runs, struck out six and didn't walk a batter. Dylan Ross finished the eighth inning, and Colin Poche tossed a scoreless ninth to close it out.
Syracuse continues its six-game series against Omaha on Friday night with game four. Right-hander Brandon Sproat is slated to start for the Mets with right-hander Justin Dunn pitching for the Storm Chasers. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
