Buffalo, NY – The Syracuse Mets missed opportunities in a 1-0 loss to the Buffalo Bisons on Tuesday night at Sahlen Field. The loss snaps Syracuse's seven-game winning streak.
Buffalo (40-59, 10-16) starter Anders Tolhurst cruised through five and one-third scoreless innings, only allowing three hits and striking out four batters. With one out in the sixth, Tolhurst was replaced and Syracuse (52-50, 21-7) proceeded to load the bases but stranded all three runners on base, continuing a scoreless game.
Mets starter Blade Tidwell tossed four scoreless frames, allowed two hits and struck out four batters. After Tidwell, Pintaro pitched a clean fifth but ran into some trouble in the bottom of the sixth inning. Orelvis Martinez drew a walk, Yohendrick Piñango singled, and Christian Bethancourt grounded a ball to the shortstop Pablo Reyes who bobbled the ball and allowed Martinez to score, giving the Bisons a 1-0 lead on an unearned run.
In the top of the seventh, Syracuse had its next best chance to score. Luis De Los Santos and Yonny Hernandez singled to put two runners on with nobody out. Then, Jose Azocar grounded into a 5-4-3-2 triple play to end the inning. It’s the second triple play the Mets have grounded into over their last eight games.
After Pintaro, Alex Carrillo ended the sixth, and pitched a 1-2-3 seventh, striking out three without giving up a hit. The right-hander has yet to allow a run through seven and two-thirds innings in Triple-A. Dylan Ross pitched a scoreless eighth, lowering his Triple-A earned run average to 1.46.
The Syracuse lineup went 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.
Syracuse continues its six-game series with Buffalo on Wednesday afternoon with game two. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 p.m.
