Athletics 7 Mets 6 Post Game Notes - 8/15/2024

  • Mark Vientos: Hit an opposite field two-run home run in the third inning to extend the Mets lead to 3-0...Lined a solo home run to right field in the fourth inning to make the score 6-4.
  • Luis Torrens: Doubled home two runs with the bases loaded in the third inning to put the Mets up 5-0...Is now batting .455 (10-22) with 24 RBI with the bases loaded for his career.

Tim Healey Newsday: Mets blow big lead, drop series to Athletics "First, the Mets lost control. Then, they lost the lead. Eventually, they lost the game...Outweighing the Mets’ productive day at the plate was an ugly effort from the pitchers, who blew a five-run lead and allowed 12 hits and a season-high 11 walks to one of the worst lineups in the majors."

NY Post: "Early on, the Mets were in a good spot as they got a two-run blast from Mark Vientos — his first of a pair of homers on the day — and a two-run single by Luis Torrens in the third inning to go up 5-0."

NY Daily News: "With the Mets (62-59) up 5-0 after scoring four in the third inning, Quintana had JJ Bleday at two strikes (1-2) with two out. But the left-hander missed up and in with a slurve and Bleday drove the ball over the right field fence for a grand slam, cutting the Mets’ lead to just one run...Huascar Brazobán gave up a run in the fifth and Reed Garrett (7-4) gave up two in the sixth."
