NY Post: Mets' Edwin Diaz serves up walk-off HR to Brewers' Isaac Collins as losing streak reaches seven. “A weekend of maximum pain ended for the Mets on Sunday on Isaac Collins’ leadoff home run in the ninth inning off Edwin Diaz as the Brewers overcame an early five-run deficit to sweep the three-game series with a 7-6 victory. The Mets, who have lost seven in a row and 11 of 12, have seen their lead for the last NL wild-card spot drop to 1 1/2 games over the Reds. Once the owners of a 5 1/2-game lead in the NL East, the Mets now trail first-place Philadelphia by 5 1/2.”  

Brian Joura Mets360: “The Mets’ offense woke up from their deep slumber in the early innings, scoring two in the first and one each in the succeeding four, with home runs coming from such unlikely sources as Brett Baty and Cedric Mullins. You’d think a 5-0 lead would be enough against a Brewers team that had rested four of its most formidable starters.” 

Mike Puma NY Post: “Manaea turned in the latest shortened start by a Mets starting pitcher. The left-hander threw 87 pitches over four innings in which he allowed four earned runs on six hits with five strikeouts and two walks. It was a second straight underwhelming performance from Manaea, who surrendered five earned runs over 5 ²/₃ innings against Cleveland in his previous start.” 

AP Sports: “William Contreras had two homers for the Brewers, a solo shot to open a three-run fourth, and a two-run homer in the fifth, his 12th, to pull Milwaukee within 6-5.” 

John Flanigan SNY.TV: "Manaea returned for the fifth, but was pulled after allowing a leadoff hit. Reed Garrett entered and immediately allowed a two-run shot to Contreras to cut into the lead and close Manaea's line with four runs allowed on six hits and two walks." 

Abbey Mastracco NY Daily News: "Rogers, pitching for the third day in a row, got out of a jam in the seventh, but Helsely was unable to in the eighth, allowing the tying run in the eighth before being replaced by Diaz with two outs. Diaz was rested, having not pitched for a week, and Helsely was making appearances on back-to-back days."

NY Post: Mets shut out by Mariners for second straight game in another lifeless loss. "On Saturday, they managed only four hits, barely showing life in getting shut out for a second straight night in a 4-0 loss at T-Mobile Park."

Tim Healey Newsday: Mets' scoreless streak extended to 19 innings in loss to Seattle. "But it’s mid-August now, seemingly all of a sudden. The Mets are in the thick of a playoff chase...They are picking a bad time to have a bad time...Atlanta ended a six-game losing streak earlier Saturday, so the Mets (61-56) fell to a half-game back of the last NL wild-card spot, leapfrogged by their division rival. San Diego and Arizona have gotten hot and have put several games of cushion between them and the rest of the pack. San Francisco and St. Louis remain relevant, too, right behind the Mets."

For the second night in a row, the Mets come from behind late against the Nationals.  This time, they didn't wait until the 9th.  Luis Guillorme homered to lead off the 8th to tie the game at 3 (the first homer of his career).  4 batters later, J.D. Davis' Sac Fly brought home Joe Panik with the go ahead run.  Seth Lugo (W,5-2) set the Nationals down 1-2-3 in the 9th for the win.

NY Post: Mets profit from a worrying reminder about innings limits. "With Rockies phenom Jon Gray cruising through six innings in his second major league start, having allowed just a Travis d’Arnaud home run, Colorado manager Walt Weiss pulled the impressive right-hander, who was on a strict innings limit, despite just 75 pitches." 

ESPN: "The Mets loaded the bases against Justin Miller (L,1-1) in the seventh after Gray, the No. 3 overall draft pick in 2013, was pulled...Miller gave up a single to d'Arnaud, walked Michael Conforto and then Ruben Tejada as well with two outs. Boone Logan entered and hit Curtis Granderson with a full-count pitch to tie it. Murphy then grounded a single past diving shortstop Jose Reyes, the former Mets star recently acquired in the trade that sent Troy Tulowitzki to Toronto, for a 4-2 lead."
