Brian Joura Mets360: "Pete Alonso and Jesse Winker hit back-to-back home runs in the first inning and the Mets got just enough pitching against the lowly White Sox to emerge with a 5-3 victory Saturday night in Chicago. It was the Mets’ third-straight win and puts the club eight games over .500 for the first time this season."
NY Post: Mets top lowly White Sox to move two games behind Braves in wild-card race. "Jesse Winker’s production is transforming him from a nice extra piece to a key member of a lineup that has been searching for heroes. Saturday night the veteran outfielder had a third straight multi-hit game, which included a homer, in helping the Mets to a third straight victory, 5-3 over the White Sox at Guaranteed Rate Field."
Tim Healey Newsday: Mets beat White Sox, gain ground on Atlanta. "Mendoza was working without Diaz, who was resting after pitching each of the previous three days. Huascar Brazoban, Ryne Stanek and Phil Maton combined for three hitless, walkless innings...Quintana wound up with a fine line — five innings, two runs, one earned — but was not sharp against what is by far the lowest-scoring offense in the majors."

From the Mets 2 Dodgers 1 - Post Game Notes:
- Mets: Finished August with a record of 19-11, the most wins in August since 2015...Is tied for their most wins in a single month this season (also: May).
- Jacob deGrom (7.0 IP, 3 H, ER, BB, 9 K): Has allowed one or zero runs in 100 of his 204 career starts, the most through a pitcher's first 204 career.
- Starling Marte (1-4, HR, 2 RBI, R): Drove in both Mets runs a two-run home run in the third..Has homered in consecutive games for the fourth time this season, the most he has homered in consecutive games in a single-season (previous high: three times, 2015).
- Edwin DÃaz (1.0 IP, K): Has 100 strikeouts in 52.2 innings...Is the fastest Mets pitcher to reach the 100-strikeout mark in a season.
- Brandon Nimmo (2-4, R): Robbed Justin Turner of a would-be game-tying homer in the top of the seventh.
ESPN.com: "Starling Marte hit a two-run homer off All-Star lefty Tyler Anderson (13-3) as the Mets evened a three-game showdown between the top two teams in the National League."
Newsday: "Facing the best team — and the most prolific offense — in baseball, deGrom was as good as he has been in his month back from the injured list. He didn’t allow a hit until the fifth inning, when Turner singled past a diving Francisco Lindor. He struck out nine batters and walked just one. The Dodgers broke through in the sixth, when Mookie Betts crushed a home run to leftfield on a slider that deGrom left over the plate."
NY Post: "Former Met Justin Turner nearly erased the deficit in the seventh. His drive, hit at 104 mph with an expected batting average of .790, looked like a homer off the bat. But Nimmo raced back and made the leaping grab against the fence, which he called the best catch of his career."

Jacob deGrom (L, 2-1) 6 innings, 6 hits, 4 runs, 1 ER, 2 walks, 9 Ks, 103 pitches – 72 strikes; 1 K; Hunter Strickland, 1 inning, 0 hits, 0 runs, 1 walk, 2 Ks; Brad Brach 1 inning, 1 runs, 1 ER, 1 hit (HR), 0 walks; Edwin Diaz 1 inning, 1 hit, 0 runs, 0 walks, 2 Ks; Jeff McNeil 2 for 4, 1 RBI, 1K; Robinson Cano 2 for 4 (HR #6), run scored, 1 RBI; Pete Alonso 0 for 4; Dominic Smith 1 for 3, 1 RBI.
Mets Daddy: “Jeff McNeil broke out of a slump in a big way with a second inning RBI double. Later in that second, Dominic Smith hit a sacrifice fly to give the Mets a 2-0 lead. After that, the Mets again forgot how to hit in RISP going 2-for-10 in the game. However, you would’ve thought that wouldn’t matter. After all, deGrom was on the mound.”
NY Post: “Garrett Cooper’s homer in the sixth sliced the Mets’ lead to 2-1 before the roof caved on deGrom, with an assist from Alonso’s error. Alonso misplayed Matt Joyce’s grounder, opening the gate for the Marlins to score three unearned runs. Lewin Diaz stroked an RBI double to tie the game before Miguel Rojas produced a run-scoring single. Jorge Alfaro’s double brought in the inning’s final run. ‘I left the ball over the middle of the plate and didn’t execute pitches when I needed to,’ deGrom said.”
