From the Mets 4 Orioles 3 Post Game Notes - 8/19/2024:
- Francisco Alvarez: Crushed a home run in the ninth inning to give the Mets a 4-3 walk-off win...It was his first career walk-off home run and hit.
- David Peterson: Pitched 7.0 innings which is his longest outing of the season...Recorded eight strikeouts which matches a season high (Also: 6/26/24 vs. Yankees)...Established a career high with seven quality starts.
Brian Joura Mets360: "The Mets blew a 3-0 lead but Francisco Alvarez made sure that they didn’t lose the game, as he delivered his first walk-off hit, a 421-foot homer, giving the club a 4-3 win in the opening game of the three-game series against the Orioles. With the Braves having the night off, the Mets pulled within 1.5 games of Atlanta for the third Wild Card spot."
Newsday: "Before the homer, the Mets had not gotten a hit since Tyrone Taylor’s two-out RBI single in the fourth gave them a 3-0 lead. They struck out 11 times in the fifth through ninth innings and 14 times overall."
NY Post: David Peterson's latest Mets outing leaves Carlos Mendoza raving "He tossed a season-high seven innings, and were it not for a fluky balk that scored a run and briefly threw Peterson off his game, his line would have been even better."

Bassitt threw six solid innings in which he allowed two runs..."

"A day after owner Steve Cohen tweeted his frustration about the team’s offensive shortcomings (and the Mets scored four runs in the 12th inning to beat the Giants to snap a five-game skid) the production was minimal against seven Dodgers pitchers in a bullpen game...The Mets put just three runners in scoring position for the entire game and left five runners on base. They managed only six hits, five of which were singles."

Mike Puma NY Post: Michael Conforto turns Mets implosion into magical moment. “Betances, working for a second straight day, was entrusted a 3-1 lead in the eighth and couldn’t protect it. After Betances drilled Eddy Alvarez with the bases loaded to force in a run, Diaz entered and walked Logan Forsythe on five pitches to tie it.”
Tim Healey Newsday: “The Mets might not have a closer, but Michael Conforto got the save Wednesday.”
NJ.com: After Mets bullpen collapses, Michael Conforto's homer saves day. “Luckily for them, Michael Conforto launched a baseball 425 feet to center field for a go-ahead, two-run home run in the ninth inning. Conforto saved the day after Brandon Nimmo hit a two-out single to keep the inning alive.”
Amazing Avenue: Despite bullpen blunders, the Mets rack up their third straight win over the Marlins. “Diaz came back out for the ninth inning, and mowed down the side, securing the Mets win and capping off a dramatic win, a series victory, and the Mets’ first three-game winning streak of the season.”
