8/19/2025 Box Score: New York Mets 8 Washington Nationals 1 Francisco Lindor#: SS 1 for 5; 1 run; 3 Ks; 1 double; Juan Soto: RF 1 for 4; 2 runs; 1 RBI; 1 walk; 1 K; 1 HR; Brandon Nimmo: LF 2 for 4; 1 run; 1 RBI; 1 walk; Pete Alonso: 1B 0 for 5; 1 K; Jeff McNeil*: 2B 3 for 4; 2 runs; 3 RBIs; 1 walk; 1 HR; 1 double; Mark Vientos: DH 1 for 4; 1 run; 2 RBIs; 1 walk; 1 HR; Brett Baty*: 3B 1 for 3; 1 run; 1 RBI; 1 walk; 1 HR; Luis Torrens: C 1 for 4; 1 double; Cedric Mullins: CF 1 for 4; 1 K; 1 SB; David Peterson: (W, 8-5) 8 innings; 1 run; 1 ER; 4 hits; 1 walk; 10 Ks; Ryne Stanek:  1 inning; no runs; 1 hit;

Brian Joura Mets360: "David Peterson was terrific over eight innings and the Mets slugged four home runs for an easy 8-1 win over the Nationals Tuesday night in Washington D.C. in a game that took just 2:20 to complete. It’s the Mets’ third-straight win and brings their record this season versus the Nats to 6-2."

Abbey Mastracco NY Daily News: "It was a stellar performance, and the type the Mets have rarely seen since their rotation was decimated in June. Despite double-digit strikeouts, Peterson’s performance wasn’t flashy or overly dominating. Instead, it was efficient and methodical. Peterson used his sinker to induce ground-balls, and a changeup below the zone got whiffs."

NY Post: David Peterson rebounds with eight-inning gem as Mets roll to third straight win. "Mark Vientos, Brett Baty, Juan Soto and Jeff McNeil all homered as the Mets continued their success against the Nationals, with a sixth victory in eight games against them this season."

NY Post: Jeff McNeil has another big night in Mets’ blowout victory: ‘Super consistent’. "Surrounded by bats that have been erratic, he has been unrelenting and might have reached his best groove of the season, going 8-for-17 with a homer and two doubles in his past four games."

Laura Albanese Newsday: "That, for now, was enough to provide a little emotional boost after Mendoza announced Tuesday that Francisco Alvarez may be lost for the season. Alvarez sustained a UCL sprain in his right thumb sliding into second base in their win over the Mariners Sunday and will be shut down for 10-14 days before the Mets determine whether he can play through the pain or if he’ll need season-ending surgery. The surgery, in any case, is inevitable, Mendoza said; it’s just about the timing."

With the Braves having the night off, the Mets pulled within 1.5 games of Atlanta for the third Wild Card spot."

NY Post: David Peterson's latest Mets outing leaves Carlos Mendoza raving "He tossed a season-high seven innings, and were it not for a fluky balk that scored a run and briefly threw Peterson off his game, his line would have been even better."

"A day after owner Steve Cohen tweeted his frustration about the team’s offensive shortcomings (and the Mets scored four runs in the 12th inning to beat the Giants to snap a five-game skid) the production was minimal against seven Dodgers pitchers in a bullpen game...The Mets put just three runners in scoring position for the entire game and left five runners on base. They managed only six hits, five of which were singles."

Mike Puma NY Post: Michael Conforto turns Mets implosion into magical moment. “Betances, working for a second straight day, was entrusted a 3-1 lead in the eighth and couldn’t protect it. After Betances drilled Eddy Alvarez with the bases loaded to force in a run, Diaz entered and walked Logan Forsythe on five pitches to tie it.”

Tim Healey Newsday: “The Mets might not have a closer, but Michael Conforto got the save Wednesday.”

NJ.com: After Mets bullpen collapses, Michael Conforto's homer saves day. “Luckily for them, Michael Conforto launched a baseball 425 feet to center field for a go-ahead, two-run home run in the ninth inning. Conforto saved the day after Brandon Nimmo hit a two-out single to keep the inning alive.”

Amazing Avenue: Despite bullpen blunders, the Mets rack up their third straight win over the Marlins. “Diaz came back out for the ninth inning, and mowed down the side, securing the Mets win and capping off a dramatic win, a series victory, and the Mets’ first three-game winning streak of the season.”

ESPN.com: "After Schoop made it 3-3 in the sixth with a two-run homer, Flores put New York up 4-3 in the seventh with a shot off rookie Mychal Givens. Jones connected off Hansel Robles in the bottom half. Mets rookie Noah Syndergaard gave up three runs and eight hits in five-plus innings. He had a 3-1 lead in the sixth before yielding a double to Chris Davis and Schoop's home run. That ruined Syndergaard's bid for his first big league road win.
