Brian Joura Mets360: "The offense started early, with Francisco Lindor and Mark Vientos hitting back-to-back doubles in the first inning to jump out to an early 1-0 lead. The Mets added two more runs in the fourth on a passed ball and an infield single."
Mike Puma NY Post: Mets start critical 10-game road trip with solid win over Padres. "Severino walked Jurickson Profar to load the bases with nobody out in the fifth, but got Jake Cronenworth to hit into a double play — Iglesias lunged to stop the sharply hit grounder and Pete Alonso managed to keep his foot on first base while falling to secure Lindor’s throw. 'For me that was the play of the game right there,' Mendoza said. 'Sevy was able to finish that inning and then the bullpen came in and did a hell of a job.'”
Tim Healey Newsday: Mets keep rolling, use 5-run ninth inning to pull away from Padres. "The Mets (67-61) used a five-run ninth inning to turn what had been a close contest into a blowout of San Diego (72-57), one of the clubs they are chasing in the National League wild-card race. With the victory, the Mets remained 1 1/2 games behind Atlanta for the last berth."

NY Post: Mets can’t capitalize on solid Tylor Megill, strong bullpen in loss to Braves. "Daniel Vogelbach provided two runs with a homer in the sixth inning, but that was all for the Mets in their 3-2 loss at Truist Park...On Tuesday, Tylor Megill gave the Mets 4 ²/₃ innings in which he surrendered three earned runs on eight hits with five strikeouts and two walks. Given the potency of this Braves lineup, the outing was acceptable."
Newsday: "The Mets totaled five hits, including Daniel Vogelbach’s two-run homer in the sixth. They put their first two runners on base in the ninth against Raisel Iglesias, but Francisco Alvarez grounded into a double play and Rafael Ortega grounded out to end the game."

They lost 4-2 to their crosstown rivals, who won back-to-back games for the first time since July 29 and 30."
Newsday Domingo German outpitches Max Scherzer as Yankees top Mets in Subway Series opener "German, who shook off a sixth-inning comebacker off his right calf, was cruising along with one out in the seventh when Pete Alonso hit a pop-up to short right. Cabrera went out and didn’t give ground as rightfielder Marwin Gonzalez came in, calling for the ball. The two collided and the ball clipped off Cabrera’s glove for an error...Daniel Vogelbach followed the flub with a two-run homer to make it 3-2."

National Pastime.com: Dwight Gooden strikes out Garry Templeton in the eighth inning of the Mets' 5-2 victory at Jack Murphy Stadium to become the 11th pitcher to strike out 200 batters in his rookie season. The 19 year-old freshman becomes only the third teenager to accomplish the feat, joining Bob Feller (1938 Indians) and Gary Nolan (1967 Reds).
National Pastime.com: Graig Nettles' fourth-inning two-run homer off Dwight Gooden is his seventh round-tripper in his last six games, tying a National League record shared by Walker Cooper, George Kelly, and Willie Mays.
