NY Post: Mets' Edwin Diaz serves up walk-off HR to Brewers' Isaac Collins as losing streak reaches seven. “A weekend of maximum pain ended for the Mets on Sunday on Isaac Collins’ leadoff home run in the ninth inning off Edwin Diaz as the Brewers overcame an early five-run deficit to sweep the three-game series with a 7-6 victory. The Mets, who have lost seven in a row and 11 of 12, have seen their lead for the last NL wild-card spot drop to 1 1/2 games over the Reds. Once the owners of a 5 1/2-game lead in the NL East, the Mets now trail first-place Philadelphia by 5 1/2.”
Brian Joura Mets360: “The Mets’ offense woke up from their deep slumber in the early innings, scoring two in the first and one each in the succeeding four, with home runs coming from such unlikely sources as Brett Baty and Cedric Mullins. You’d think a 5-0 lead would be enough against a Brewers team that had rested four of its most formidable starters.”
Mike Puma NY Post: “Manaea turned in the latest shortened start by a Mets starting pitcher. The left-hander threw 87 pitches over four innings in which he allowed four earned runs on six hits with five strikeouts and two walks. It was a second straight underwhelming performance from Manaea, who surrendered five earned runs over 5 ²/₃ innings against Cleveland in his previous start.”
AP Sports: “William Contreras had two homers for the Brewers, a solo shot to open a three-run fourth, and a two-run homer in the fifth, his 12th, to pull Milwaukee within 6-5.”
John Flanigan SNY.TV: "Manaea returned for the fifth, but was pulled after allowing a leadoff hit. Reed Garrett entered and immediately allowed a two-run shot to Contreras to cut into the lead and close Manaea's line with four runs allowed on six hits and two walks."
Abbey Mastracco NY Daily News: "Rogers, pitching for the third day in a row, got out of a jam in the seventh, but Helsely was unable to in the eighth, allowing the tying run in the eighth before being replaced by Diaz with two outs. Diaz was rested, having not pitched for a week, and Helsely was making appearances on back-to-back days."

New York Mets claimed Jeff Tam on waivers from the Cleveland Indians on August 11, 1999.
1963 | In the second game of a doubleheader, Auburn's Paul Alspach strikes out 24 New York-Penn League Pirate batters en route to a 1-0 victory at Batavia's MacArthur Stadium. The 21-year-old Mets farmhand's performance breaks the NYPL's strikeout record of 20, previously shared by Jerry Kleinsmith (Jamestown, 1948) and Ron Owen (Hornell, 1955). |
2004 | During the memorial service at St. Patrick's Cathedral in front of pews packed with Mets fans, team owner Fred Wilpon and former broadcast partner Gary Thorne deliver eulogies remembering the late Hall of Famer Bob Murphy. At the age of 79, 'Murph' after supplying 42 years of Happy Recaps for the Mets and a half of a century broadcasting big-league games that included stints with the Red Sox and Orioles, lost his battle with lung cancer. |
2005 | Mets outfielders Carlos Beltran and Mike Cameron, running at full speed in an attempt to catch David Ross' seventh-inning short fly to short right-center, dive head-first into each other, causing a horrific on-field collision. Right fielder Cameron, who suffers a broken nose and multiple fractures of both cheekbones, will undergo facial surgery in San Diego, with his teammate faring a bit better, suffering a concussion and a small fracture in his cheekbone. |
2015 | The Blue Jays, Rays, Marlins, Mets, Indians, Cubs, Royals, White Sox, Twins, Cardinals, Diamondbacks, Mariners, Padres, Dodgers, and Giants all win, marking the first time every home team is victorious in a full slate of games. The unique occurrence became a reality when the last two completed games end in extra innings in Cleveland and Seattle, with the host clubs enjoying a walk-off victory. |
1971: Dave Roberts for the Padres and Tom Seaver for the Mets lock up in a classic pitchers duel, both pitching shutout ball for 10 innings, at which point Seaver is replaced by a pinch-hitter, having compiled 14 strikeouts. Roberts stays in the game, though, and wins a 12-inning 1 - 0 shutout when Larry Stahl hits a lead-off double in the bottom of the 12th and scores when Mets C Jerry Grote throws the ball into the outfield when he attempts to steal third base.
1988: After going 225 at bats‚ Gary Carter finally hits his 300th career home run as the Mets beat the Cubs, 9 - 6.
2009: Australian Trent Oeltjen continues his hot streak since being purchased from AAA Reno on August 6th. The Diamondbacks outfielder bangs out four hits in a 6 - 2 win over the Mets and is now 12 for 24 since joining the team, earning the nickname "The Thunder from Down Under".
2010: Closer Francisco Rodriguez of the Mets is arrested at Citi Field after allegedly assaulting his father-in-law following tonight's 6 - 2 loss to the Colorado Rockies in which he did not pitch. He remains in police custody all night before a court appearance on August 12th and is placed on the restricted list by the Mets.
