NY Post: "Soto, whose ninth-inning blast Wednesday was the team’s only hit against the Guardians, jumped on a 2-2 sinker from Woodruff in the first inning and cleared the right field fence. Marte’s homer leading off the second extended the lead to 2-0. It was the fifth homer this season for Marte and his first since June 5 at Dodger Stadium."

Newsday: "The 5th inning started on a chopper by Perkins to the first-base side of the mound that Senga bobbled for an error. Brice Turang rocketed the next pitch 424 feet to right for a tying two-run homer. Senga walked No. 9 hitter Joey Ortiz before Sal Frelick grounded into what looked to be a 4-6 forceout. But hold on: Frelick’s bat had made the slightest contact with Francisco Alvarez’s mitt. The catcher’s interference was scored an E-2 and there were two runners on. Then there were three when Senga walked William Contreras to load the bases. Mendoza called in lefty Brooks Raley to face switch hitter Isaac Collins. After getting ahead 0-and-2, Raley hit Collins with a pitch to make it 3-2."

Abbie Mastracco NY Daily News: "Kodai Senga couldn’t even make it through five innings Friday night at American Family Field, running the Mets’ streak of games to 51 without having at least two starting pitchers throw six or more innings. Left-hander David Peterson is the only starter to have thrown six or more since early June."

Brian Joura Mets360: "Marte managed to hit a double in the top of the ninth against Trevor Megill, making things a bit interesting until he got thrown out at the plate trying to leg out a run on a single by Jeff McNeil."

NY Post: David Stearns not blaming hitting coaches for Mets’ offensive woes. “I have confidence in our hitting coaches,” Stearns said. “I think we have good hitting coaches. They have track records of helping to lead and putting together really quality offenses. This is, at times, baseball, and it will drive you crazy when you have talented players who go through stretches like this.

NY Post: Mets’ David Stearns hasn’t given up on struggling Frankie Montas: ‘I know he’s working hard’. Montas, who either will start on Saturday or pitch behind an opener — manager Carlos Mendoza wasn’t ready to announce his plans before Friday’s 3-2 loss to the Brewers — has been the rotation’s weak link. His struggles have prompted calls for the organization to promote a top pitching prospect such as Nolan McLean or Brandon Sproat to receive a shot.
