The Brooklyn Cyclones (26-​39, 72-59) open up their first postseason series since 2022 as they travel to take on the Greensboro Grasshoppers (43-23, 88-43) — the High-A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates — in Game 1 of the South Atlantic League North Division Finals on Tuesday evening at 6:30 p.m. from First National Bank Field in Greensboro, N.C.

 

RHP Channing Austin (0-0, 6.00), a Prospect Lefferts Gardens native, is expected to make the start for the Cyclones. The Grasshoppers are projected to counter with RHP Khristian Curtis (8-5, 3.98).


Live coverage on the Cyclones Radio Network, Bally Sports Live, and MiLB.tv will begin at 6:15 p.m.


LAST TIME OUT: The Cyclones snapped a season-high-tying 5-game losing streak at Jersey Shore on Sunday afternoon...Down 2-1 entering the 9th, Brooklyn scored 4 runs with 2 outs in the frame to take the lead for good...PH-LF Vincent Perozo worked a bases-loaded walk to tie the score before CF-SS Yonatan Henríquez cleared the bases with a 2-run single, plus a throwing error...The Cyclones used 9 pitchers en route to the victory...Brooklyn arms in total allowed just 3 hits and struck out 15...RHP José Guevara picked up his first High-A victory, recording the final 4 outs for the Cyclones via strikeouts...The contest featured a 1-hour and 15-minute delay before first pitch due to rain.


SAL PLAYOFFS: The Cyclones and Grasshoppers open the South Atlantic League North Division Finals on Tuesday night in Greensboro...Brooklyn clinched its first postseason berth since 2022 by winning the South Atlantic League First Half North Division crown with a 6-4 win at Aberdeen on June 19...The playoff berth is the Cyclones' second since moving to the full-season level, having won the Second Half North Division title in 2022...Greensboro captured the Second Half North Division title with a 4-1 win at Hudson Valley on Sunday...The Grasshoppers finished 2nd in Minor League Baseball in wins (88) and winning percentage (.672), trailing only Detroit's High-A West Michigan...The winner of the best-of-3 series will play the victor of the SAL South Division Series between Bowling Green and Hub City...Game 1 of the SAL Championship Series is scheduled for Sunday, September 14, at the home of the North Division winner...Games 2 and 3 would be played on Tuesday, September 16, and Wednesday, September 17, at the South Division winner.


POSTSEASON HISTORY: The Cyclones will play their second postseason series as a full-season affiliate starting on Tuesday night in Greensboro...Brooklyn previously made the playoffs in 2022 as the South Atlantic League North Division champions in the second half...The Cyclones ultimately fell to the Aberdeen IronBirds in 3 games in the SAL North Division Finals...Brooklyn has not won a postseason series since they defeated the Lowell Spinners to win the New York-Penn League Championship in 2019...The 2019 title was the final in NYPL history and Brooklyn's first outright Minor League title...The Cyclones also shared the 2001 NYPL Championship with the Williamsport Crosscutters in the aftermath of the September 11th attacks.
