NY Post: "Jesse Winker eked out a grand slam in the first inning, which proved to be all the scoring the Mets would need and all they would get until the eighth inning, when they scored four more. Bases-loaded walks from Tyrone Taylor (against Kenley Jansen), Jeff McNeil (against Rich Hill) and Francisco Alvarez (Hill), along with a sacrifice fly from Harrison Bader, provided the late insurance."

Newsday: "Tylor Megill, spot starter, lasted only four-plus innings...Mendoza found an answer with a playoffs-esque approach to the bullpen...Mendoza turned to Alex Young for three outs, Huascar Brazoban for four, Danny Young for four and Maton for one. And after the Mets blew it open with a four-run bottom of the eighth — the Red Sox relievers issuing three consecutive bases-loaded walks — they stuck with Edwin Diaz for the last three outs.

Abbey Mastracco NY Daily News: "The Mets completed a three-game sweep of the Boston Red Sox with an 8-3 win, their second straight sweep in a row [7th in a row]. It was a win that was characterized by intensity and urgency, with the Mets making it clear that they aren’t taking their foot off the gas this month."

From the Nationals 7 Mets 1 - Post Game Notes

  • Carlos Carrasco (L,13-6) (2.2 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 2 K): Made his first start since returning from the IL.
  • Jeff McNeil (2-2, RBI, BB): Put the Mets on the board with a sacrifice-fly in the second inning.
NY Post: "Carrasco could not make it out of the third inning on Sunday, getting tagged for five runs (only one earned) on six hits and two walks in 2 ²/₃ innings of a 7-1 loss to the Nationals at Citi Field...Carrasco was making his first start since Aug. 15, when he exited a start early with a low-grade left oblique strain. But he bounced back quicker than expected, and after throwing about 55 pitches in a simulated game on Monday, was deemed ready for Sunday’s start."
