Mike Puma NY Post: Mets waste Jose Butto’s solid outing in loss to Nationals. "Butto, who was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse on Friday when rosters expanded, allowed two earned runs on six hits and one walk, with six strikeouts, over 6 ¹/₃ innings. Butto took a shutout into the seventh, but was removed after allowing two singles (both runners later scored)."
Tim Healy Newsday: "The Mets jumped out to an early lead against Joan Adon (five innings, two runs). Brandon Nimmo’s double and Francisco Lindor’s single produced a run before Adon recorded an out. But they went 2-for-12 with runners in scoring position."
North Carolina Daily: "Rookie Jacob Young's one-out single in the bottom of the ninth inning drove in the winning run as the Washington Nationals beat the visiting New York Mets 3-2 on Wednesday night...Mets reliever Phil Bickford (4-5) walked Carter Kieboom to open the ninth, and Jake Alu was hit by a pitch before Ildemaro Vargas delivered a sacrifice bunt. Young then came through with his single to center field."

NY Post: Edwin Diaz blows it for Mets in crushing loss to Nationals. "The meltdown came in Diaz’s first appearance since blowing a save three days earlier against the Nationals. The Mets survived that calamity by rallying to win with four runs in the 10th inning. This time there was no chance for redemption. Andrew Stevenson stroked a game-tying RBI single before Carter Kieboom’s grounder off Francisco Lindor’s glove won it. Diaz walked Alcides Escobar and Josh Bell as part of the implosion."

Brian Joura Mets360.com: The Mets hit five home runs en route to setting season highs in both hits and runs to back Jacob deGrom, who was his usual terrific self, as the Mets won in a laugher, 14-1, over the Phillies Sunday afternoon. The win raised the team’s record in blowouts – typically a strong measure of a team’s quality – to 8-3. The Mets have now won four of their last five games and scored 40 runs in that span.
Metstradamus: Alonso, for his part, had three hits including that home run, another home run in garbage time in the 8th and a double. (That hitch in his swing seems to have been downgraded to a small hump.) Jeff McNeil hit his first home run of the year which put the final nail in Nola’s outing, and Brandon Nimmo hit a trans-continental off Heath Hembree to put the game away at 7-1.

Wilmer Flores' 6th inning 2-run homer gave the Mets a 3-2 lead that held until the 8th when Justin Bour homered off Tyler Clippard to tie it. Clippard stayed on to pitch the 9th. Jeff Mathis led off by striking out but reached 1st on a strike 3 wild pitch. After Dee Gordon-Strange's single put the runner on 3rd and Christian Yelich was intentionally walked to load the bases with one out, Martin Prado's Sac Fly drove in the walk-off win for the fish.
Mike Puma NY Post: Clippard the rare goat as Mets slump into showdown with Nats. "It was a rough outing for the usually reliable Clippard...The Nationals were swept three games at Citi Field beginning on July 31, but will carry a five-game winning streak into Monday, with Max Scherzer, Jordan Zimmermann and, likely, Stephen Strasburg lined up to pitch in succession."
