NY Post: Mets avoid no-hit ignominy thanks to ninth-inning outburst in key win over Blue Jays. "The Mets went the first 110 pitches they saw without getting a hit Wednesday and then received a huge one from their MVP, if not the National League’s. Francisco Lindor led off the ninth inning with a shot that rocketed over the right-field fence at Rogers Centre, and the Mets were alive."

"The Yankees jumped to a 5-0 lead shortly after an emotional pregame tribute, then let it all slip away, capped by James McCann's two-run homer that put the Mets up 6-5 in the sixth...The Mets added another run against Clay Holmes (W,7-3) before Judge lofted a tying two-run drive off Trevor May (L,7-3) that stayed in the air nearly seven seconds before dropping over the wall in left with no outs in the eighth...Five batters later, reliever Aaron Loup induced a potential double-play ball from slow-footed pinch-hitter Luke Voit, but Báez sailed his throw on the pivot from second nearly into the home dugout, allowing pinch-runner Andrew Velazquez to score and make it 8-7."

Brian Joura Mets360: Dominic Smith hit his first career grand slam and Michael Conforto hit a three-run shot and had 4 RBIs and 4 runs scored. Robinson Cano, Jeff McNeil and Wilson Ramos each had three hits, and Ramos joined Conforto with the 4-4 Runs-RBIs combo. McNeil got two gift hits, having a pop fly lost by the outfielders in the lights and a ground ball to first where the position player pitching didn’t cover first base.

SNY.TV: The fourth inning was one the Mets won’t soon forget about. With the bases loaded and nobody out, J.D. Davis hit a one-hopper to shortstop, but the routine throw home could not be handled by catcher Danny Jansen, scoring the Mets’ fifth run of the game. Things only got worse for the Blue Jays from there. With the bases still loaded, Dominic Smith demolished a 3-0 fastball from former Mets prospect Anthony Kay for a grand slam, giving Smith 36 RBI on the season.

"With a major assist from the bullpen and Yoenis Cespedes’ bat, the Mets beat the Braves 5-1 at Turner Field on a night Matz never found a rhythm. Cespedes iced it with a monstrous two-run homer in the ninth...In his second start back with the Mets after a nearly two month absence, Matz (3-0) lasted five innings and allowed one earned run on six hits with two walks and two strikeouts."

National Pastime.com: In the opening game of a critical series against the Mets, Terry Pendleton, with two outs and two strikes, hits a ninth-inning game-tying home run off Roger McDowell in the Cardinals' eventual 6-4 extra inning victory at Shea Stadium. The Redbirds third basemen's dramatic long ball smashes the windshield of New York starter Ron Darling, who had pitched one-hit ball before being forced to leave the game in the top of the seventh due to severely spraining his right thumb fielding Vince Coleman's bunt single in the prior inning.

National Pastime.com: With his 30th stolen base, Mets third baseman Howard Johnson becomes the first National League infielder to become a member of the 30-30 club. The other players in the Senior Circuit to have 30 home runs and 30 stolen bases in the same season are outfielders Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, Bobby Bonds, Dale Murphy, and Eric Davis.

In one of the most exciting and season defining games of 1985, John Tudor (W,18-8) pitched a complete game 10 inning shutout.  Cards' César Cedeño who was picked up in late August homers off Jesse Orosco for the games line run.  Cedeño hits 6 homers with 19 RBIs for St. Louis while slashing .434/.463/.750 - a 1.213 OPS. A huge difference the last month of the season.  Dwight Gooden throws 9 scoreless in a no decision.
