  • Mets: The Mets batted .366 (90-246) with runners in scoring position in the month of August…It’s their highest mark in a single calendar month (min. 20 G) in franchise history, the previous being when the team batted .333 (71-213) in July 2006.
  • Kodai Senga Allowed a career-high-tying five earned runs over 4.2 innings…The only other time he has allowed as many earned runs was on May 11, 2023 at Cincinnati…His seven hits allowed today were a season high...In nine starts since returning from the Injured List, has gone 0-2 with a 5.90 ERA (26 ER/39.2 IP) with 24 walks and 39 strikeouts…Went 7-3 with a 1.47 ERA (12 ER/73.2 IP) with 31 walks and 70 strikeouts in his first 13 games of the season.
Brian Joura Mets360: "The Mets opted not to make a deal for a starting pitcher at the deadline, with a combination of not willing to pay the going rate and a belief that their struggling starters could turn things around. Sandy Alcantara proved that, for at least a day, that was a bad decision, as he limited the Mets to just one run over seven innings, pitching the Marlins to a 5-1 victory Sunday afternoon at Citi Field."

Newsday: "Even the benches clearing after Sandy Alcantara — who looked the part of the 2022 NL Cy Young winner despite a rocky season — (barely) hit Mark Vientos with a pitch in the seventh could not spark the Mets. Alcantara and Vientos seemed to exchange words, though the skirmish never escalated into anything physical."

NY Post: "If the Mets were inspired, they did not show it on a day they finished 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position and were overwhelmed by Alcantara, who looked like an ace worth trading for during his seven strong, one-run innings."

NY Daily News: "A series after a huge sweep of the Phillies, Kodai Senga was roughed up once again as the Amazins fell 5-1 to The Fish, dropping three out of four at Citi Field. Senga tossed 4.2 innings, allowing five runs on seven hits while striking out six. It’s the second straight outing where Senga was unable to get out of the fifth inning."

David Lennon Newsday: "This didn’t happen overnight. It’s been building for a while now, dating to Senga’s mid-July return from a hamstring strain, which was supposed to be a turning point, in a positive way, for the Mets’ rotation. But Senga has had the opposite effect, and after he sabotaged another pivotal game in Sunday’s 5-1 loss to the Marlins,  there’s no more ignoring the obvious. Senga isn’t getting any better and the Mets are running out of time to play detective."

NY Post: Carlos Mendoza won’t commit to another Kodai Senga start as Brandon Sproat sends a Mets ‘message’. "Sproat — who entered this season as the organization’s top pitching prospect but was beaten to Queens by Nolan McLean and Jonah Tong largely because of his struggles in the first half — struck out nine and allowed three hits and two walks over seven shutout innings Saturday as Triple-A Syracuse beat Yankees affiliate Scranton/Wilkes-Barre."

Yesterday Francisco Alvarez caught all nine innings for Syracuse going 1 for 5 with 3 Ks.

Before Yesterday's game the Mets sent RHP Chris Devenski to AAA and recalled LHP Brandon Waddell.

Per Jon Heyman on X: Luisangel Acuna is being promoted back to the Mets as the Roster expands to 28 for September.
