9/2/2025 Box Score: New York Mets 12 Detroit Tigers 5
Newsday: "Mets rookie sensation Nolan McLean, after a shaky first inning, dominated the Tigers on Tuesday night and the Mets pounded out four home runs and 17 hits in a 12-5 victory. The 24-year-old righthander went six innings and struck out seven in his fourth big-league start. McLean (4-0, 1.37 ERA) gave up two runs, three hits and walked three — all in a six-batter span after he got the first two outs in the first inning — and then retired the final 14 men he faced."
Abbey Mastracco NY Daily News: "A hot offense that helped the Mets overcome rocky pitching to stay in the playoff standings last month has continued into September. Juan Soto, Pete Alonso and Luis Torrens each hit homers, with Alonso hitting a pair of them, while Jeff McNeil and Brett Baty each had three-hit nights."
NY Post: "With McLean in charge, the Mets beat the Tigers 12-5 at Comerica Park to win their second straight against the team that began play with the American League’s best record. The Mets extended their lead over Cincinnati to five games for the NL’s third and final wild card. Philadelphia leads the Mets by 5 ½ games for first place in the NL East."
Mike Puma NY Post: Jesse Winker’s season with Mets all but over after injury setback. "The Mets outfielder, who last week began a minor league rehab assignment with Single-A St. Lucie, has been shut down from baseball activities because of lower back discomfort, according to manager Carlos Mendoza, and is unlikely to return this year."
