Francisco Lindor#: SS 1 for 3; 1 double; 1 run; 2 walks; 1 SB; Juan Soto: RF 1 for 4; 1 run; 1 walk; Pete Alonso: 1B 3 for 4; 1 double; 1 RBI; Brandon Nimmo: LF 1 for 4; Mark Vientos: 3B 1 for 4; 1 RBI; Jeff McNeil*: CF 1 for 2; 2 walks; Starling Marte: DH 0 for 4; 1 K; Brett Baty*: 2B 0 for 4; 2 Ks; Hayden Senger: C 0 for 2; 1 K; Luis Torrens: C 0 for 2; Clay Holmes: (L, 11-7) 4.2 innings; 3 runs; 2 ERs; 5 hits; 3 walks; 6 Ks; Gregory Soto:  1.1 innings; no runs; 2 hits; 1 K; Ryan Helsley:  0.2 inning; 3 runs; 3 ERs; 3 hits; 1 HR; 1 walk; 2 Ks; Justin Hagenman:  1.1 innings; no runs;

Abbey Mastracco NY Daily News: "It was more of the same from the Mets‘ pitching staff Wednesday afternoon in Detroit. Clay Holmes couldn’t make it through five innings, Ryan Helsley imploded in the seventh inning, and a one-run lead by the Detroit Tigers ballooned into a four-run lead."

Newsday: "Holmes, who had thrown 85 pitches, had just walked his second batter of the inning. With two outs and runners on first and second, Soto came in to face lefthanded-hitting slugger Riley Greene...If the problem wasn’t the move, then it was definitely the execution. Soto threw a wild pitch to move both runners up a base, and then gave up a scorching two-run single past shortstop Francisco Lindor to give the Tigers a 3-1 lead."

Brian Joura Mets360: "After the Mets cut the deficit in half with an RBI single by Mark Vientos in the sixth inning, Soto pitched a scoreless frame. The Mets failed to score in their half of the seventh and Mendoza chose to bring the struggling Ryan Helsley into a one-run game."

NY Post: "Ryan Helsley’s nightmare to begin the bottom of the seventh inning at Comerica Park: Single, walk, home run. And for a second straight outing, an early hook was attached to the right-hander without completing an inning.  The beleaguered reliever was part of an overall disappointing bullpen performance in the team’s 6-2 loss to the Tigers that denied the Mets a three-game sweep."
