Jett Williams hit a go-ahead two home run for Syracuse on Tuesday night (Kylie Richelle).
Syracuse, NY – Behind a pair of home runs, the Syracuse Mets beat the Worcester Red Sox, 3-2, on a sunny Tuesday night at NBT Bank Stadium. Ryan Clifford and Jett Williams each launched their fourth Triple-A homers to lead the Mets to the win.
Worcester (69-69, 28-36) opened the scoring in the top of the third inning when Corey Rosier singled and Seby Zavala hit an RBI triple to give the Red Sox a 1-0 lead. With Zavala at third, Luis Moreno threw a wild pitch to the backstop, scoring Zavala and stretching the Worcester lead to 2-0.
Syracuse (71-68, 40-24) responded quickly when Ryan Clifford hit a 415-foot homer to right-center field, cutting the deficit, 2-1.
In the fourth, the lineup continued to put pressure on the Red Sox. With one out, Luis De Los Santos singled, and Jett Williams smacked a go-ahead, two-run homer to put the Mets in front, 3-2.
On the mound, the Syracuse bullpen dominated. Ty Adcock got the start, pitching a scoreless first inning without allowing anyone on base. Next, Luis Moreno tossed three innings, allowed two runs, and struck out five batters. Dom Hamel pitched the fifth through the seventh innings with no runs or walks, while striking out a pair. Austin Warren pitched a scoreless eighth with three strikeouts, and Dylan Ross shut the door in the ninth with his third Triple-A save of the season.
Syracuse continues its six-game series with the Worcester Red Sox on Wednesday night. Right-hander Jonathan Pintaro is slated to start for the Mets with left-hander Shane Drohan set to go for the Red Sox. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
