From being signed as an International Free Agent in 2022 for $10,000, to being #15 on the MLB Pipeline Mets Top 30 Prospect List in 2025 when he wasn't mentioned in prior years, to now going to the Arizona Fall League, it has been quite a year for Mets Prospect Chris Suero.
Background, Stats, Videos.
From the Binghamton Rumble Ponies Game Notes:
Chris Suero C/1B/OF, 5'11 / 205
DOB: 1/27/04 (21)
HOMETOWN: Bronx, NY ACQ: Int'l FA (2022) B/T: R/R
"Signed with the New York Mets as an international free agent on March 8, 2022, out of Peravia, Dominican Republic...Moved to the Dominican Republic when he was 15-years-old and spent 2.5 years at the Academia Carlos Paulino in Nizao...Attended All Hallows High School in The Bronx for one year...Grew up in the Sedgwick Houses, a housing project in the University Heights neighborhood of the Bronx...Born in The Bronx."
Baseball Savant: "He’s at least an above-average runner, flashing plus times out of the box from the right side...He was relatively new to catching when he signed, and Suero focused mostly back there in his first two seasons but expanded his defensive resume to first base and left field...Suero runs a simple operation as a hitter, looking calm before unleashing an uppercut swing...It’s an OBP-driven hitting profile for now, but if he can play multiple premium positions at a high level, his future will only get brighter."
Baseball America: "Suero started catching about a month before he signed with the Mets...Suero’s versatility and ability to catch will help him get a foot in the door in MLB. In some ways, he resembles former Mets prospect Endy Rodriguez as an athletic Dominican catcher who is capable at several positions."
Outlook:
As a formerly un-rated prospect that works hard, has power, gets on base and can throw out would be base stealers, there is a lot to like about Chris Suero. He is someone that is easy to root for.
Now that he is playing in the Arizona Fall League after a great Post Season for Binghamton and solid 2025, I think more and more will know his name. Look for him to have continued success this Fall, catch and play the OF and 1B. If nothing else, his versatility should keep him in the lineup. I also think he will be invited to Spring Training next February.
