Mets sweep the Cubs 4-0 in the 2015 NLCS. Lucas Duda with a 3-run 1st inning homer and Travis d'Arnaud a solo shot put the Mets up 4-0, Duda drives in 2 more with a double in the 2nd for a 6-0 lead.
NY Post: The Mets are Going to the World Series: "Lucas Duda, who had been almost nonexistent for the Mets in their previous eight postseason games, was the hero with a five-RBI performance that allowed rookie Steven Matz and the bullpen to coast in the most lopsided game of the series...Daniel Murphy established an all-time postseason record by hitting a home run in a sixth consecutive game. He finished with four in the NLCS and was named series MVP after batting .529. In nine games this postseason, Murphy has seven homers and 11 RBIs."
Ken Davidoff NY Post: Daniel Murphy: Bumbling second baseman to playoff legend. "The second baseman’s eighth-inning, two-run homer off Fernando Rodney provided the fitting cap to both a virtually flawless NLCS for the Mets and Murphy’s own, obvious case for series MVP honors, which he predictably captured. The Mets’ 8-3 thumping of the Cubs in Game 4 on Wednesday night at Wrigley Field completed their series sweep and clinched their first trip to the World Series since 2000, when they lost to the Yankees."
NY Post: Versatile Bartolo Colon comes to the rescue again for Mets. "In the fifth inning with two on and two out, Terry Collins called on the 42-year-old to bail out the rookie, Steven Matz. Colon quickly got Kris Bryant to strike out to finish the inning and then pitched a scoreless sixth to allow Collins to get to the other members of his rested bullpen, Addison Reed, Tyler Clippard and the practically unhittable Jeurys Familia."

Yanks take Game 1 of the 2000 Subway World Series as they rally to tie the game off Armando Benitez in the 9th and win it in the 12th.
Yanks took a 2-0 lead in the 6th on a 2-run double by David Justice. After the Mets loaded the bases against Andy Pettitte in the 7th, pinch hitter Bubba Trammel singled in two to tie it and the Mets took the lead on Edgardo Alfonzo's single.
In the 9th, after Armando Benitez retired Jorge Posada on a fly ball to Center, Paul O'Neill worked a 10-pitch walk to start the Yankee rally. After Luis Polonia and Jose Vizcaino singled to load the bases, Chuck Knoblauch's Sac Fly tied it. It stayed that way until the 12th when Jose Vizcaino's bases loaded single off Turk Wendell gave the Yankees the win.
Game is also remembered for Timo Perez not running hard in the 6th on a ball that Todd Zeile hit. Though it looked like it would go out, it hit the top of the wall and Timo, who started a home run jog, was thrown out at the plate trying to score.

Mets battle back in the '86 Series as Lenny Dykstra starts the game with a homer and Mets jump out to a 4-0 lead in the 1st. Gary Carter drives in 3 and Bob Ojeda allows just 1 run in 7 innings against his old club.
Much was discussed before the game how the Red Sox play in their home park and how they knew all about their former teammate, but Ojeda held the Sox in check and Roger McDowell allowed no hits over the last two scoreless innings.
The day before, not wanting his team to have to deal with media questions about being down 2 games to none in the series, Davey Johnson gave the team the day off. The move helped rejuvenate the team and led to their Game 3 win.

Ken Holtzman wins his 2nd Game of the World Series as the A's beat the Mets 5-2 and win the 1973 Series in 7 Games for their 2nd consecutive title.
Ken Holtzman started the winning rally against Matlack with a double in the 3rd, Bert Campaneris followed with a 2 run homer, Joe Rudi singles and after Sal Bando popped up to 1st, Reggie Jackson's homer made it 4-0 A's. After the A's added another run in the 5th to make it 5-0, Felix Millan and Rusty Staub doubled back-to-back in the 6th to put the Mets on the board. It stayed that way until the 9th when Rollie Finger's error scored John Milner from 3rd and brought the tying run in the form of Wayne Garrett to the plate. Dick Williams brought in Darold Knowels and he got Garrett to popup to short to end it.
After being in last place as late as August 30th and making a historic run to capture the NL East Division in September, then beating the Big Red Machine in thee playoffs, the Mets were unable to make one more comeback falling to the A's.
As much as people love to say "Yogi lost the Series" by starting Seaver on 3 days rest in Game 6, the A's were the far superior team and the Mets lack of hitting which was a major part of the early 70's Mets, did them in again.
