Abbey Mastracco NY Daily News: "There were missed opportunities at the plate and some hard-hit balls that died on the warning track, a shaky start from Luis Severino and a bullpen blowup, and the Mets were doomed in an 8-0 loss in Game 3 of the NLCS."
Tim Healey Newsday: Mets routed again as Dodgers claim NLCS Game 3, take 2-1 series lead: Altogether, the mix of bad luck and bad hitting created another quiet night at the plate for the Mets, who were shut out for the second time in three games. They totaled four hits. And they stranded eight runners on base, including six in the first three innings, when they whiffed on a couple of potential game-swinging moments.
Laura Albanese Newsday: "When their starting pitching is less than stellar, as it was in Game 1 with Kodai Senga and, to a much lesser extent, Wednesday with Luis Severino, the bullpen hasn’t stepped up. The unit allowed four runs Sunday and five more Wednesday. Add to that, the Mets made some big misplays Wednesday, an Alvarez error and two gaffes by Severino, who was just nominated for a Gold Glove. That said, the Mets have shown grit in the past. They just have to find it again, Severino said."

Wayne Garrett led off the Mets 1st with a home run off Catfish Hunter and Felix Millan later scored on a wild pitch to put the Mets up 2-0 before they ever made an out. But the Mets never scored again as Hunter buckled down and the A's chipped away at the lead against a fully rested and dominant Tom Seaver. Gene Tenace doubled in Sal Bando in the 6th and Joe Rudi singled in Bert Campaneris with the tying run in the 8th.
In the 11th, Harry Parker walked Ted Kubiak with 1 out, Kubiak went to 2nd on a passed ball by Jerry Grote and Campaneris singled in Kubiak with the go ahead run. Wayne Garrett let off the bottom of the 11th with a single and Felix Millan bunted hom to 2nd but Rollie Fingers came on to retire Rusty Staub and Cleon Jones as the A's went up 2 games to 1 in the series.

Mets win their first World Series Championship winning 4 straight games against the heavily favored Orioles. Game 5 saw the Mets fall behind 3-0 in the 3rd as Orioles pitcher Dave McNally hit a 2-run homer and Frank Robinson added a solo shot.
In the 6th, Cleon Jones led off and was awarded 1st base on a hit-by-pitch on the famous "shoe polish play". After the umpire ruled that the ball didn't hit Cleon, Mets Manager Gil Hodges showed the umpire that the ball had shoe polish on it and Cleon was awarded 1st. The next batter, Donn Clendenon, put the Mets on the board with a 2-run homer. Al Weis tied it with a homerun in the 7th and Ron Swoboda doubled in Cleon Jones with the go ahead run in the 8th. Meanwhile, Jerry Koosman allowed just 1 single since the Frank Robinson homer in the 3rd as he pitched the Mets to victory.
The Mets who never had a winning season in their brief history so far, a team that had 100-1 odds of winning the World Series, was now the World Champions.
