From the Mets 4 Phillies 1 Post Game Notes - 10/9/2024:
Mets:
- Clinched a Postseason series for the first time at Citi Field...Was the first time the Mets clinched a Postseason series at home since the 2000 NLCS vs. St. Louis...Will play in the NLCS for the ninth time in franchise history...Is their first trip to the NLCS since 2015.
- Are 13-9 all-time in clinching games.
- Are 57-42 (.576) all-time in Postseason play, the third-best winning percentage in major league history behind Miami (24-16, .600) and the Yankees (245-179, .578).
- Have won 14 of their last 16 home games dating back to August 21.
- Has not allowed an earned run in each of his last three Postseason starts dating back to October 7, 2022 (NLWC Game 1 vs. Philadelphia with St. Louis)...It is tied for the second-longest such streak in MLB Postseason history...Is the fifth pitcher in franchise history to post back-to-back starts of 5.0+ innings and allow no earned runs in the Postseason (Last: Tom Glavine 2006 NLDS Game 2 vs. Los Angeles and 2006 NLCS Game 1 vs. St. Louis).
- Hit a grand slam in the sixth inning to put the Mets in front 4-1...It is his second career Postseason grand slam (Also: 2017 ALDS Game 2 vs. Yankees)...Was the second grand slam in Mets Postseason history (Also: Edgardo Alfonzo 1999 NLDS Game 1 at Arizona)...His six grand slams with the Mets are tied with Mike Piazza for the most in franchise history (Including Postseason).
- Was his first career Postseason game with multiple extra-base hits.
- Recorded his fourth consecutive multi-hit game, tying him with Daniel Murphy (2015) and Todd Ziele (2000) for the longest such streak in franchise history during the Postseason.
- Earned his first career Postseason win...Has not allowed a run over 6.1 innings in Postseason play.
- Escaped bases loaded jams in both the first and second innings…Is the first pitcher in Postseason history to allow four or more hits and two or more walks in the first two innings combined without allowing a run.
NY Post: Mets catch break on controversial Phillies foul ball: ""With two outs and a runner on first base [in the 8th|, Phillies third baseman Alec Bohm ripped a hard ground ball down the first base line and out of the reach of Pete Alonso, which would have at least put runners on the corners...With the Mets clinging to a 4-1 lead, it would have brought the tying run the the plate. But first base umpire Carlos Torres called the ball foul..."

Joe Musgrove and 2 Padres' relievers throw a 1-hit shoutout to win the 2022 Wild Card Series. Despite winning the second most games in Mets History (101), the Mets struggled the last week of the season getting swept by the Braves resulting in losing the division. After splitting the 1st two games, it came down to a deciding game and the Mets had no answer for Musgrove - before and agfter they had him checked for sticky substances.
NY Post: Mets have Joe Musgrove’s ears checked for illegal substance during Game 3 start. "Before Padres pitcher Joe Musgrove could throw his first pitch of the bottom of the sixth inning Sunday night, the Mets manager approached first-base umpire and crew chief Alfonso Marquez. Showalter requested a foreign substance check on Musgrove, who had allowed just one hit in five innings of a game the Padres led by four runs. The umpires checked Musgrove’s hat, glove and notably ears for a substance, and the right-hander passed the inspection...Pictures had circulated online of Musgrove’s ear appearing to have a shine, as if he could be using a sticky substance to help his grip and spin rate on the ball. It is also possible Musgrove was especially sweaty, which was his defense."
- Recorded one hit, the fewest ever in a Postseason game in franchise history...Their previous low in a Postseason game was two in Game 2 of the 2015 World Series at Kansas City.

Mets take game one of the 2015 Division Series behind Jacob deGrom's 7 shutout innings, Daniel Murphy's Solo homer and David Wright's 2-run single.
Mike Puma NY Post: Unreal deGrom outduels Kershaw in Mets’ Game 1 statement. "DeGrom fired seven shutout innings and tied a postseason franchise record with 13 strikeouts, leading the Mets’ 3-1 victory in Game 1 of the NLDS before 54,428 at Dodger Stadium. In a 121-pitch masterpiece, deGrom tied the Mets’ single-game postseason strikeout record set by Tom Seaver, who fanned 13 in Game 1 of the 1973 NLCS in Cincinnati...David Wright’s two-run single in the seventh against Pedro Baez gave the Mets the cushion they needed after nursing a 1-0 lead provided by Daniel Murphy’s home run against Kershaw in the fourth."
Mike Vaccaro NY Post: October glory was long time coming for Mets’ old guard. "They are a matched set in many ways, Wright and Murphy, the last two links to the last era of quasi-prosperity, to the ill-fated autumn of 2008. Wright hit .350 that September, trying to hold off a second straight collapse. Murphy was just a rookie...a kid with a sweet lefty swing spraying line drives the moment he stepped off the plane from New Orleans, hitting .313 in that first go-round...They both have spent so many Octobers since feeling as far detached from the game as the law allows...These past few weeks, both were fixing to burst, they were so ready to greet October head on. They had waited long enough."

Mets win the 1999 NLDS series over the D-Backs as Todd Pratt hits a Walk-Off Home Run in the 10 Inning.
NY Post: "In a close parallel to their entire season, Todd Pratt’s shot to deep center seemed to have fallen just short. Springy center fielder Steve Finley leaped off the ground and reached over the wall for the ball to try for a game-saving catch at Shea. But Finley returned to earth empty-handed, and Pratt simultaneously floated off the planet. Emotional and elated that his Amazin’ home run had just given the Mets a series-clinching 4-3 win over the Diamondbacks, Pratt seemed to be jogging on air as his home run dispatched the Diamondbacks and served up the hated Braves."

In what some call the "Pete Rose Revenge Game", Mets and Reds battle in 1-1 tin until Pete Rose wins it with a homer in the 12th. Rusty Staub helps keep the game tied with two amazing catches, the second one by crashing into Right Field wall. Rusty would injure his left shoulder hurting his ability to throw but he would continue to play the rest of the NLCS and World Series.
