Year: 2024; NLCS Game #1; Sunday; Oct 13, NYM 0 @ LAD 9; boxscore; WP: Jack Flaherty; LP: Kodai Senga; Time: 2:52; Night; Attendance: 53,503; Record: 0-1; L;

Francisco Lindor SS: 0 for 3; 1 walk; 1 K; Mark Vientos 3B: 0 for 4; 3 Ks; Brandon Nimmo LF: 0 for 3; Luisangel Acuña PH: 0 for 1; Pete Alonso 1B: 0 for 3; 1 walk; 1 K; Starling Marte RF: 0 for 4; 2 Ks; Jesse Winker DH: 1 for 3; Jose Iglesias 2B: 1 for 2; 1 walk; Tyrone Taylor CF: 0 for 2; Jeff McNeil PH: 0 for 1; Harrison Bader CF: 0 for 0; Francisco Alvarez C: 1 for 3; 1 K; Kodai Senga, L (0-1): 1.1 innings; 3 runs; 3 ERs; 2 hits; 4 walks; Reed Garrett: 1.1 innings; no runs; 1 hit; 2 Ks; David Peterson: 2.1 innings; 3 runs; 2 ERs; 4 hits; 1 walk; 2 Ks; Danny Young: 1.1 innings; no runs; 1 walk; José Buttó: 1.2 innings; 3 runs; 2 ERs; 2 hits; 1 walk; 2 Ks;

Tim Healey Kodai Senga's brutal short start sends Mets to NLCS Game 1 loss to Dodgers. "Senga allowed three runs, two hits and four walks in 1 1⁄3 innings. He threw 30 pitches, only 10 of which were strikes. He mixed in a wild pitch and a pitch-clock violation. He forced the Mets to get another pitcher warmed up in the first inning and insert that pitcher in the second."

Brian Joura Mets360: "Many thought that David Peterson should have started this game. But he got hit hard in relief and allowed three runs, too. And Jose Butto completed the three runs allowed trifecta, as the Dodgers scored three times against him, too."

David Lennon Newsday Mets' mojo was nowhere to be found in NLCS Game 1 loss to Dodgers. "Thanks to Kodai Senga’s disastrous start, Flaherty’s surprising dominance and a dash of self-sabotage, the Mets looked almost helpless, their playoff magic gone, in a sobering 9-0 loss to the Dodgers."

Tim Healey Newsday: Three takeaways from the Mets' NLCS Game 1 loss to the Dodgers. "1. More than just the score went against the Mets. 2. In a rare occurrence, the offense looked bad. 3. The Mets lost all of their momentum . . . for now."

Mark W. Sanchez NY Post: Jesse Winker’s baserunning blunder cost Mets lone chance for rally in NLCS Game 1. "Their best chance at scoring halted strangely, with Winker hung up between second and third base, uncertain of where to go, before he did not fully charge to his base of choice to lowlight a 9-0, NLCS Game 1 smacking at Dodger Stadium."

After winning Game 1 2-0 the night before, Game 2 started off well for the Mets as Carlos Delgado's 3-run 1st inning homer gave them a 3-0 lead.  But John Maine gave up two to the Cards in the 2nd and after Jose Reyes' RBI single in the bottom of the inning, Jim Edmonds' 2-run homer tied the game at 4 in the 3rd.  Delgado later homered again and Lo Duca added an RBI double to make it 6-4 but Guillermo Moto allowed a Scott Spiezio triple to tie it back up in the 7th.

NY Post: Say So Long: Wags Tagged Tagucji's HR in 9th Bops Billy, Amazin's. "Taguchi, a Cardinals reserve outfielder, led off the top of the ninth against Wagner with a 375-foot homer into the left-field bullpen, a dramatic shot that propelled St. Louis to a 9-6 comeback Game 2 victory over the Mets at Shea Stadium, and tied the best- of-seven NLCS at 1-1...Wagner gave up two more runs in the ninth, getting booed after Juan Encarnacion’s RBI single brought in the final one. After beating the Reds in the NL Playoffs, the Mets were once again heavy underdogs against the defending World Champ Oakland A's.  Jon Matlack allowed just 3 hits - all in the 3rd innings where the A's scored 2 unearned runs.  With two out, Pitcher Ken Holtzman, making his first at bat of the year due to the AL's implementation of the DH, doubled and scored as Felix Millan misplayed a Bert Campaneris ground ball.  Campy stole second and was singled in by Joe Rudi to put the A's up 2-0.  Cleon Jones doubled and John Milner singled him in to make it 2-1 but though out hitting the A's 7-4, the Mets went 1 for 9 with runners in scoring position dropping Game 1 of the '73 World Series.  Mets slugger Rusty Staub, nursing the sore shoulder he sustained in the playoffs with the Reds was limited to a pinch hitting role in the 9th but never saw a pitch as Darold Knowles replaced Rollie Fingers and Yogi replaced Rusty with Jim Beauchamp who popped up to 2B.
