Curtis Granderson RF: 2 for 5; 2·2B; 5 RBIs; David Wright 3B: 0 for 3; IW; 1 run; 2 walks; 1 K; Daniel Murphy 2B: 1 for 5; 1 run; 1 RBI; 1 K; Yoenis Céspedes LF: 3 for 5; HR; 3 runs; 3 RBIs; 1 K; Lucas Duda 1B: 1 for 5; 4 Ks; Travis d'Arnaud C: 3 for 5; HR; 3 runs; 3 RBIs; 1 K; Wilmer Flores SS: 2 for 3; 2B; 2 runs; 1 walk; Juan Lagares CF: 1 for 3; 2B; 3 runs; 1 walk; Matt Harvey P: 0 for 2; 2 Ks; Michael Cuddyer PH: 0 for 0; 1 walk; Michael Conforto PH: 0 for 0; SF; 1 RBI; Matt Harvey, W (1-0): 5 innings; 3 runs; 2 ERs; 7 hits; 2 walks; 7 Ks; Bartolo Colón: 2 innings; 1 run; 1 ER; 2 hits; 1 HR; 3 Ks; Addison Reed: 1 inning; no runs; 1 K; Erik Goeddel: 0 inning; 3 runs; 3 ERs; 4 hits; 1 HR; Jeurys Familia: 1 inning; no runs; 1 K;

Utley gets booed, Tejada cheered, Granderson a 5 RBIs night, Cespedes a big 3-run homer, Mets overcome a 5 inning, 3 run start by Harvey to go up 2 game to 1 in the best pf 5 series.

NY Post: Inspired Mets erupt to push Utley’s Dodgers to the brink. "Curtis Granderson, Yoenis Cespedes and Travis d’Arnaud all delivered big hits, making Matt Harvey’s mediocre start a footnote on a night the Mets rolled to a 13-7 victory in Game 3 of the NLDS...Harvey missed a Mets workout before the start of the series and there was wonderment Monday night if he had remembered to show for the game, as the Dodgers raced to a 3-0 lead against him in the second inning. But the right-hander recovered to survive five innings in which he allowed seven hits with seven strikeouts and two walks, throwing 97 pitches...Granderson, who finished with five RBIs, smashed a three-run double in the second inning to give the Mets a lead they never surrendered."

NY Post: "Though Chase Utley ensured Ruben Tejada wouldn’t play again this postseason — having fractured the Mets shortstop’s right fibula during Game 2 of the NLDS — Tejada still played a significant role in the Mets’ 13-7 Game 3 win over the Dodgers, inspiring his teammates and igniting the Citi Field crowd after limping out with a cast on his leg and a cane in his hand to join his teammates during pregame introductions."

NY Post: "Terry Collins didn’t think he’d need to use closer Jeurys Familia on Monday night, with the Mets leading by nine runs entering the ninth inning, but after rookie Erik Goeddel allowed three runs and four hits without recording an out, Collins wasn’t taking any chances — whether he needed Familia or not. With the Mets’ lead over the Dodgers cut to 13-7 and a runner on base, Familia revived the once-raucous Citi Field crowd by striking out Adrian Gonzalez and ending Game 3 of the NLDS by retiring the next two batters he faced to give the Mets a 2-1 series lead."

Year: 2006; NLCS Game #1; Thursday; Oct 12, NYM 2 Vs STL 0; boxscore; WP: Tom Glavine; LP: Jeff Weaver; Save: Billy Wagner; Time: 2:52; Night; Attendance: 56,311; Record: 1-0; W;

José Reyes SS: 0 for 4; Paul Lo Duca C: 2 for 4; 1 run; 1 K; Carlos Beltrán CF: 1 for 4; HR; 1 run; 2 RBIs; Carlos Delgado 1B: 2 for 3; 2·2B; 1 walk; David Wright 3B: 0 for 3; IW; 1 walk; Cliff Floyd LF: 0 for 1; Endy Chávez LF: 0 for 3; Shawn Green RF: 1 for 2; SB; 1 walk; José Valentín 2B: 0 for 3; 1 K; Tom Glavine P: 0 for 2; Julio Franco PH: 0 for 1; 1 K; Tom Glavine, W (2-0): 7 innings; no runs; 4 hits; 2 walks; 2 Ks; Guillermo Mota, H (2): 1 inning; no runs; 1 walk; 1 K; Billy Wagner, S (3): 1 inning; no runs; 1 walk;

Tom Glavine throws 7 scoreless and Carlos Beltran belts a 2-run homer as the Mets take Game 1 of the 2006 NLCS.

NY Post: "Glavine scripted his second straight terrific postseason start, tossing seven scoreless innings in beating Jeff Weaver. Beltran broke up a scoreless game in the sixth inning, slamming a two-run homer off the scoreboard in right, leading the Mets to a 2-0 Game 1 win before 56,311 at Shea...Glavine...only gave up four hits and held Albert Pujols hitless in three at-bats against him."

Year: 2000; NLCS Game #2; Thursday; Oct 12, NYM 6 @ STL 5; boxscore; WP: Turk Wendell; LP: Mike Timlin; Save: Armando Benítez; Time: 3:59; Night; Attendance: 52,250; Record: 2-0; W;

Timo Pérez RF: 1 for 5; 1 run; 2 Ks; Edgardo Alfonzo 2B: 2 for 3; 3B; 2 runs; 1 RBI; 2 walks; 1 K; Mike Piazza C: 1 for 2; HR,2·IW; 2 runs; 1 RBI; 3 walks; Todd Zeile 1B: 2 for 3; 2B,SF; 2 RBIs; 1 walk; Robin Ventura 3B: 1 for 4; 1 walk; Joe McEwing PR-3B: 0 for 0; 1 run; Benny Agbayani LF: 1 for 4; 2B,SH; 1 RBI; Jay Payton CF: 1 for 4; 1 RBI; 1 walk; 2 Ks; Kurt Abbott SS: 0 for 3; 2 Ks; Matt Franco PH-1B: 0 for 2; Al Leiter P: 0 for 3; 2 Ks; Darryl Hamilton PH: 0 for 1; Mike Bordick SS: 0 for 1; Al Leiter: 7 innings; 3 runs; 3 ERs; 8 hits; 9 Ks; John Franco, H (2): 0.2 inning; 2 runs; 2 ERs; 1 hit; 1 walk; Turk Wendell, BS (1), W (1-0): 0.1 inning; no runs; 1 hit; 1 walk; 1 K; Armando Benítez, S (1): 1 inning; no runs; 1 walk; 1 K;

Mets go up 2-0 after scoring a run in the 9th to break a 5-5 tie.  Mets took the lead several times in this one and each time the Cards came back to tie it.  In the 8th, Timo Perez scored from 1st on a hit and run Edgardo Alfonzo single in the 8th and Fonzie came around on a Todd Zeile single as the Mets went up 5-3 but John Franco and Turk Wendell allowed 2 runs in the bottom of the 8th as St. Louis tied right back.

NY Post"It was Jay Payton, who picked up his second game-winning single of the playoffs, breaking a 5-5 deadlock with a one-out single in the ninth...Payton drilled loser Mike Timlin for a hard, line-drive single to center, which got away from Jim Edmonds, allowing allowed pinch-runner Joe McEwing to easily score from second and Payton to race to third...McEwing was pinch-running for Robin Ventura, who led off the ninth with a hard grounder to Will Clark. The ball went under Clark’s glove, hit him in the foot and bounced away. Benny Agbayani laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt to move McEwing to second. Payton then came through with his clutch hit."

At 3 Hours and 59 Minutes, it set a record for the longest 9 inning NLCS Game in History.

Year: 1999; NLCS Game #1; Tuesday; Oct 12, NYM 2 @ ATL 4 boxscore; WP: Greg Maddux; LP: Masato Yoshii; Save: John Rocker; Time: 3:09; Night; Attendance: 44,172; Record: 0-1; L;

Rickey Henderson LF: 0 for 4; 1 K; Edgardo Alfonzo 2B: 2 for 4; 2·2B; 1 run; John Olerud 1B: 1 for 4; 1 K; Mike Piazza C: 0 for 4; 1 RBI; Robin Ventura 3B: 0 for 3; 1 walk; 1 K; Darryl Hamilton CF: 0 for 3; 1 K; Shawon Dunston PH: 0 for 1; 1 run; Roger Cedeño RF: 2 for 3; 2B,CS; Todd Pratt PH: 1 for 1; 1 RBI; Rey Ordóñez SS: 0 for 4; Masato Yoshii P: 0 for 2; Matt Franco PH: 0 for 0; Melvin Mora PH: 0 for 0; 1 walk; Masato Yoshii, L (0-1): 4.2 innings; 2 runs; 2 ERs; 5 hits; 2 walks; 1 K; Pat Mahomes: 1.1 innings; 1 run; 1 ER; 2 hits; 1 HR; 1 K; Dennis Cook: 1 inning; no runs; 2 walks; 1 K; Turk Wendell: 1 inning; 1 run; 1 ER; 1 hit; 1 walk; 2 Ks;

NY Post: For Openers, Big Bad Braves continue to Bully Amazin's. "Although he didn’t have his best stuff, Maddux, who allowed one run on five hits in his seven innings, pitched well when he had to, almost always getting out of situations with runners on base. That included a key moment in the third inning, when Roger Cedeno made it to third base with nobody out. But Rey Ordonez hit a dribbler on top of the third-base line 10 feet from the plate and was thrown out by Perez. Then Yoshii missed the ball on a suicide squeeze play and Perez chased Cedeno down and tagged him out."

Wallace Mathews NY Post: Maddux Kills 'em softly. "The Mets got 86’ed in game 1 of the NLCS last night, on 86 pitches by Greg Maddux, who has carved a bust headed for Cooperstown out of such games. For all the bluster of his teammates, once again Maddux proved that the game goes not to the loudest but to the coolest, not to the strongest but to the most precise. Once again, Maddux – fleshy-faced, doe-eyed Maddux – proved to be the best athlete on the field as well as the best pitcher. Once again, he proved to be too much for the Mets to handle, even on a mediocre night."

Year: 1988; NLCS Game #7; Wednesday; Oct 12, NYM 0 @ LAD 6; boxscore; WP: Orel Hershiser; LP: Ron Darling; Time: 2:51; Night; Attendance: 55,693; Record: 3-4; L; Dodgers win the 1988 NLCS 4 Games to 3.

Lenny Dykstra CF: 1 for 3; HR,2B; Wally Backman 2B: 1 for 3; 1 walk; Keith Hernandez 1B: 0 for 3; 1 walk; 1 K; Darryl Strawberry RF: 0 for 4; 1 K; Kevin McReynolds LF: 0 for 4; 1 K; Gregg Jefferies 3B: 2 for 4; Gary Carter C: 0 for 3; Lee Mazzilli PH: 0 for 0; Kevin Elster SS: 1 for 3; Howard Johnson PH: 0 for 1; 1 K; Ron Darling P: 0 for 1; Dave Magadan PH: 0 for 1; 1 K; Mackey Sasser C: 0 for 1; Ron Darling, L (0-1): 1 inning; 6 runs; 4 ERs; 6 hits; 2 Ks; Dwight Gooden: 3 innings; no runs; 1 hit; 2 walks; 1 K; Terry Leach: 2 innings; no runs; 3 hits; 1 K; Rick Aguilera: 2 innings; no runs; 1 K;

Dodgers complete their 1988 NL:CS upset as they score 6 in the 1st two innings and Orel Hershiser throws a complete game 5 hits shutout.  Steve Sax leads off the Dodger 1st with a single followed by a Mickey Hatcher double, Sax scored on a Kirk Gibson Sac Fly to put L.A. up 1-0.  Ron Darling imploded in the 2nd allowing 3 straight singles to start the inning.  Next in a pivotal play, Greg Jefferies couldn't handle an Orel Hershiser grounder at 3rd base allowing a run to score.  Steve Sax followed with a 2-run single and Darling was removed for Dwight Gooden.  After the inning was over L.A. had scored 5 runs on 4 hits, 2 errors and 2 intentional walks for a 6-0 lead putting the Mets 100 win 1988 season to an end.

Year: 1986; NLCS Game #4; Sunday; Oct 12, NYM 1 Vs HOU 3; boxscore; WP: Mike Scott; LP: Sid Fernandez; Time: 2:23; Night; Attendance: 55,038; Record: 2-2; L;

Lenny Dykstra CF: 1 for 4; 1 K; Wally Backman 2B: 0 for 4; SB; Keith Hernandez 1B: 0 for 4; Gary Carter C: 0 for 4; 1 K; Darryl Strawberry RF: 0 for 3; 2 Ks; Mookie Wilson LF: 1 for 3; 1 run; Ray Knight 3B: 1 for 3; Rafael Santana SS: 0 for 2; Danny Heep PH: 0 for 0; SF; 1 RBI; Kevin Elster SS: 0 for 0; Sid Fernandez P: 0 for 1; Lee Mazzilli PH: 0 for 1; 1 K; Howard Johnson PH: 0 for 1; Sid Fernandez, L (0-1): 6 innings; 3 runs; 3 ERs; 3 hits; 2 HRs; 1 walk; 5 Ks; Roger McDowell: 2 innings; no runs; 1 K; Doug Sisk: 1 inning; no runs; 1 hit; 1 walk;

Mike Scott strikes again beating the Mets to tie the series at 1 game each.  Sid Fernandez (L,0-1) allows just 3 hits, unfortunately two of them are homers - a 2-run home run to Alan Ashby in the 2nd and a solo homer by Dickie Thon in the 5th.  Mookie Wilson singled in the 8th and went 1st to 3rd on a groundout that allowed him to score on a Danny Heep Sac Fly as the Mets avoided the shutout.

Year: 1969; World Series Game #2; Sunday; Oct 12, NYM 2 @ BAL 1; boxscore; WP: Koosman; LP: McNally; Time: 2:20; DAY; Attendance: 50,850; Record: 1-1; W;

Tommie Agee CF: 0 for 4; 2 Ks; Bud Harrelson SS: 0 for 3; 1 walk; Cleon Jones LF: 0 for 4; Donn Clendenon 1B: 1 for 3; HR; 1 run; 1 RBI; 1 walk; 1 K; Ron Swoboda RF: 0 for 4; 1 K; Ed Charles 3B: 2 for 4; 2B; 1 run; Jerry Grote C: 1 for 4; Al Weis 2B: 2 for 3; IW; 1 RBI; 1 walk; 1 K; Jerry Koosman P: 0 for 4; 2 Ks; Jerry Koosman, W (1-0): 8.2 innings; 1 run; 1 ER; 2 hits; 3 walks; 4 Ks; Ron Taylor, S (2): 0.1 inning; no runs;

Jerry Koosman starts his clutch post season career allowing just 1 run and 2 hits over 8.2 innings.  Donn Clendenon homers in the 4th to put the Mets up 1-0 but O's tie it in the 7th on a Brooks Robinson RBI single.  Mets retake the lead as Al Weis singles in Ed Charles to put the Mets up 2-1 in the top of the 9th.  Koosman gets the first two outs in the 9th but after 2 straight walks, Ron Taylor comes in to get Brooks Robinson to groundout to give the Mets their first ever World Series Game victory and tie the series at 1 game each.
