11/4/25: Mets Roster Moves - Mets acquire Joey Gerber, Sign Brandon Waddell

 

FLUSHING, NY, November 4, 2025 – The New York Mets today announced that the team has acquired RHP Joey Gerber from the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for cash considerations. He will be added to the 40-man roster. In addition, LHP Brandon Waddell has been signed to a one-year Major League contract for the 2026 season.

 

Gerber, 28, appeared in two games for the Rays last season posting a 2.08 ERA (1 ER/4.1 IP). His other Major League action came in 2020 as a member of the Seattle Mariners, appearing in 17 games for the club and going 1-1 with a 4.02 ERA (7 ER/15.2 IP).

 

The right-handed reliever spent the majority of 2025 at Triple-A Durham, striking out 54 in 34 games (43.2 innings). In five Minor League seasons, Gerber has posted a 4-7 record with 19 saves, a 3.47 ERA (59 ER/153.0 IP), 62 walks and 207 strikeouts in 128 games (11 starts).

 

The Maple Grove, MN native was originally selected by the Seattle Mariners in the eighth round of the 2018 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Illinois.

 

Waddell appeared in 11 games (one start) with the Mets this year, posting a 3.45 ERA (12 ER/31.1 IP), 11 walks and 22 strikeouts. He spent the majority of the 2025 season at Triple-A Syracuse, where he went 3-9 with a 5.02 ERA (42 ER/75.1 IP), 25 walks and 63 strikeouts in 19 games (15 starts).

 

The left-handed pitcher has appeared in 22 career Major League games, going 0-1, 4.09 ERA (20 ER/44.0 IP), 22 walks and 31 strikeouts. He was originally selected in the fifth round of the 2015 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Virgina.
