Mets need starters that can go deep and one of the top starters on the market is Framber Valdez. Over the last 4 years Valdez has averaged 191.8 innings a year. Last year in 192 innings he was 13-11 with a 3.66 ERA, 187 Ks, 171 hits, 68 walks, 1.245 WHIP.
He rejected Houston's Qualifying Offer which means he will cost a draft pick and likely International Free Agent Bonus money. Plus, ESPN is projecting Valdez, who just turned 32 this November will get 6 years, $168 million.
Valdez does come with some baggage. If you watch the video below, it seems that he intentionally crossed up his catcher, hitting him with a 90+ MPH fastball.
According to SNY.TV, the Mets did not meet with Valdez at the recent GM meetings.
