NY Post Sports+: Mets had positive Kyle Tucker meeting as competition for outfielder heats up. "David Stearns and crew met recently over Zoom with baseball’s top free agent, sources confirmed, demonstrating at least a possibility that this winter in Queens can be remembered for additions as much as subtractions...Former Mets GM and current SiriusXM voice Jim Duquette reported Sunday that the Mets, Blue Jays and Dodgers 1) are the three top contenders for Tucker and 2) have met with him...The Mets sales pitch is unclear, though another traditional, long-term contract would be a surprise. With obvious exceptions, Stearns tends to favor shorter-term contracts for veterans and just escaped Brandon Nimmo’s remaining five seasons." (Subscription Required)
Note: Since Kyle Tucker was given a Qualifying Offer by the Cubs, signing him would cost the Mets a draft pick and lose them international free agent signing funds.
