PRESS RELEASE, VIDEOS AND PICTURES: METS BREAK GROUND ON NEW PLAYER DEVELOPMENT COMPLEX IN PORT ST. LUCIE

PORT ST. LUCIE, FL — The New York Mets today marked the start of construction on a new 55,000 square foot Player Development Complex, underscoring the organization's continued investment in infrastructure and player development. The state-of-the-art facility, slated for completion by Spring Training of 2027, is fully funded by the Mets and coincides with a lease extension that includes options that would keep the team in Port St. Lucie until 2052.

Designed to support the daily routines of players and staff, the performance-centered facility integrates training, recovery, dining, and team spaces into a cohesive environment that enhances efficiency and functionality. Specifications include a 7,000 square foot weight room with a 1,500 square foot cardio mezzanine, turf sprint/stretch areas, gymnastics flooring, 5,000 square foot locker room with 180 lockers, a 1,300 square foot training room, a 1,800 square foot hydrotherapy area with hot and cold plunge pools, treadmill pool and four extremity tubs, as well as dining and multipurpose rooms.

"This project reflects the commitment of Steve and Alex to investing in this organization at every level," said David Stearns, President of Baseball Operations, New York Mets. "This facility underscores our belief in building from within. This is a meaningful step in strengthening our system and ensuring our young players have the resources they need to develop and succeed for years to come."

Sustainability and occupant comfort are incorporated throughout the design, with solar-shading elements and extensive natural daylighting reducing reliance on artificial lighting and cooling systems. Circulation and program layouts are carefully planned to support athletic performance while maintaining flexibility for organizational use.

In addition to the clubhouse, the project includes a 20,000 square foot synthetic turf agility field and new, covered batting cages with six batting and pitching tunnels to support year-round training.

The facility is also designed to serve the broader Port St. Lucie community, with flexible spaces that can host community fundraisers, private gatherings, and organizational events throughout the year.

The new facility was designed by HKS, an award-winning global architecture firm and will be constructed by Gilbane, a leading global builder and real estate developer.
