Today's Game: The Mets travel to Dunedin to play the Blue Jays at 1:07.  Clay Holmes, Tobias Meyers and Ryan Lambert are expected to pitch.

Newsday:
  • David Lennon: Which version of Mark Vientos will the Mets see in 2026? "He started against the Yankees at first base, where he’s expected to get most of his time during spring training, and also will be in the DH mix. He is out of minor-league options, which basically forces the Mets to keep him on the big-league roster or trade him (he’d already be gone if there had been a deal to David Stearns’ liking in the offseason)."
  • Laura Albanese: Whether it's rock-paper-scissors, Olympic Hockey or HORSE, Mets are coming together. "On Sunday, when a chunk of the team was in Tampa playing the Yankees, it manifested in a good-natured rivalry. Jonah Tong’s Canadian men’s hockey team was playing Christian Scott’s Team USA for Olympic gold, and when the red, white and blue pulled out the win in an overtime thriller, Scott posted the clip on his Instagram account and didn’t forget to tag his aggressively Canadian teammate."

Abbey Mastracco NY Daily News: Mets’ Jorge Polanco working on footwork – and ready to do the splits – as he transitions to 1B. “As we know, this is a game of inches,” Polanco said. “I’m trying to stay on the bag the longest I can, using the corners of the bag. Those are the types of things I’ve been working on. That’s why they say moving my feet is going to be the hardest. So I’m just trying to use the bag, use the corners, and just gain as much room as I can.”

Mets.com:

  • Sorting out Mets' shifting infield options with newcomers
  • 1 dark horse candidate for each team's Opening Day roster - for the Mets it is "OF Mike Tauchman When the Mets signed Tauchman after the official start of camp, it added depth to their right-field competition. The people’s choice to win that job is No. 2 prospect Carson Benge, who has a real chance to make the team. But Benge also has just 24 largely unsuccessful games of experience above Double-A. If he falters in Grapefruit League play, it will thrust the door wide open for the 35-year-old Tauchman to win the gig."

Jason Bay, who mutually agreed to terminate his contract with the Mets in November after three years of futility in New York, clouts a two-run homer in his first at-bat of spring training in the Mariners' 8-6 exhibition victory over the Padres. The likable, but oft-injured outfielder signed with Seattle in the offseason for $1 million, a far cry from the four-year, $66-million free-agent deal he inked when he left Boston for the Big Apple in 2009.

At a news conference at Borough Hall in Queens, the Mets announce the team will host an LGBT Pride Night on August 13 at Citi Field, featuring discounted seating for the game against the Padres and a free postgame concert. A portion of the proceeds from each ticket sold at Mets.com/pride for the event, which is expected to attract more than 5,000 lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender fans, will benefit the LGBT Network, a non-profit organization, and its Safe Schools Initiative working to stop bullying in Long Island and Queens.
