The Dodgers agree to a minor league
contract with free agent Justin Turner, who was non-tendered by the Mets,
after hitting .265 in 301 games with the team over four seasons. The All-Star
third baseman's steady fielding and consistent hitting prove to be a
significant asset in LA's string of titles since his arrival. |
2021: The Mets lost out on Trevor Bauer. Many were upset at the time but it turned out to be a good thing. Here were some of the related stories:
- Deesha Thosar NY Daily News: Sources told the Daily News the Mets made Bauer an offer for over $100 million across three years with an opt out after 2021, which would have put them well over the $210 million luxury tax threshold. Bauer’s three-year deal with the Dodgers is for $102 million guaranteed, with $40 million in 2021 and $45 million in 2022, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan. He can opt out after each year.

That’s why, to me, George Springer mattered even more, because if the Mets weren’t going to have the best starting rotation, there were other ways to win, and getting an All-Star center fielder with a proven ability to hit elite pitching in the postseason was at the top of the list."
