Abbey Mastracco NY Daily News: Mets prospect Carson Benge makes Opening Day roster: ‘He earned it’. "Benge was the first draft pick made by the Mets’ current front office. Scouting director Kris Gross and president of baseball operations David Stearns took Benge with the 19th pick out of Oklahoma State. With Andy Green overseeing player development, the Mets had the two-way player shift his focus solely to the outfield. Benge was more than agreeable, knowing it could help him reach the big leagues faster than if he focused on pitching."
Newsday: Mets' Carson Benge is the Opening Day starter in rightfield. "The fact that Benge will start his career on Opening Day is a rarity in recent Mets history. He will become only the 11th player to debut for the Mets on Opening Day this century, and only the fourth to start. The last Met to debut with an Opening Day start for the team is a guy whose career turned out pretty well: Pete Alonso."
Ben Dickson Newsday: "The Mets’ final bench and bullpen spots are still to be determined. Position players Vidal Brujan, Jared Young and Ben Rortvedt and lefthanders Richard Lovelady and Bryan Hudson are traveling to New York for the workout.”
Newsday: Gary Cohen, Keith Hernandez and Ron Darling discuss Opening Day plans with the Mets not on SNY. Thursday’s opener will be broadcast on NBC and Peacock. “I’ll be on my couch,” Cohen said. “I’ll be in Manhattan, watching somewhere,” Hernandez said...“I have a 10-year-old,” Darling said. “I’ll be watching the game from our booth because there’s no one in there.”
New York Post
- Mets name rookie Carson Benge starting right fielder for Opening Day "A strong performance in the Grapefruit League in which he showed off a sweet, contact-heavy lefty swing (if not a power stroke yet) and strong defensive profile for a former college two-way player helped. His arm — which touched 96 mph on the mound in Stillwater — will be a force in the outfield."
- Craig Kimbrel will ‘stay ready’ for Mets despite Opening Day disappointment "The 37-year-old, longtime shutdown reliever, who was informed Sunday that he will not be on the Opening Day roster, will remain in the organization and stay in Florida in hopes that his stuff will improve and a spot on the club will open."
- Meet the Mets pitching prospects positioned to have huge impact on season Jonah Tong, Christian Scott, Zach Thornton, Jonathan Santucci and Jack Wenninger are mentioned.
- What makes Nolan McLean ‘different’ is what could make him the next can’t-miss Mets pitching star “When the lights switch on, watch out,’’ [new pitching coach, Justin] Willard said. “The way he spins his breaking balls and then tops that off by how hard he throws his fastball, together, that’s special. He’ll have some challenges at the big-league level, but we are excited to watch him grow and develop.”

- Mets inform Carson Benge that he's made 2026 Opening Day roster as starting right fielder. Benge hit .366 this spring and certainly looked the part of a major leaguer.
