PRESS RELEASE - CARLOS BELTRAN TO HAVE HIS NUMBER #15 RETIRED & ENTER THE METS HALL OF FAME IN A SEPTEMBER CEREMONY

FLUSHING, N.Y., April 6, 2026 – The New York Mets today announced the team will retire Carlos Beltrán’s No. 15 and he will enter the Mets Hall of Fame in a pre-game ceremony on Saturday, September 19 prior to the 4:10 p.m. game against the Philadelphia Phillies.

Beltrán will become the ninth player in franchise history to have his number retired by the Mets, joining Tom Seaver (#41), Mike Piazza (#31), Jerry Koosman (#36), Keith Hernandez (#17), Willie Mays (#24), Dwight Gooden (#16), Darryl Strawberry (#18) and David Wright (#5). In addition, the Mets have retired three other numbers, including Manager Gil Hodges (#14), Manager Casey Stengel (#37) and Jackie Robinson (#42).

Earlier this year, Beltrán was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame. He announced he would wear a Mets cap on his plaque. The Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be on July 26.

“Carlos Beltrán was one of the greatest offensive players in team history, combining power and speed with elite defense,” said Mets Owners Steve and Alex Cohen. “We are thrilled that he will be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame later this summer, and excited to honor him and his family as he joins Tom Seaver and Mike Piazza among players wearing a Mets hat in Cooperstown and whose numbers hang from the rafters.”

Beltrán ranks in the Top 10 in team history in home runs, RBI, runs scored, on-base percentage, slugging percentage and OPS. The Manati, Puerto Rico, native helped reinfuse the entire organization with optimism when he signed a seven-year contract in January 2005. He was a five-time All-Star, three-time Gold Glove winner and two-time Silver Slugger with the Amazin’s. Beltrán was second in the National League in bWAR (8.2) in 2006 as he helped the Mets advance to the NLCS.

“I want to thank Steve and Alex Cohen for this tremendous honor—it’s the highest possible tribute, and I truly feel blessed,” said Beltrán. “The Mets hold a special place in my heart. This summer will be incredibly meaningful, from my induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame to this Mets Hall of Fame honor, with the cherry on top being my number retirement. I’m deeply grateful.”

Beltrán returned to the Mets in January 2023, as he continues to work as a Special Assistant to President of Baseball Operations David Stearns.

Tyrone Taylor who wore #15 will change his uniform number to #28.
