Chris Flanders Mets360: "The losing continues in Metsland with a pretty solid 12-4 drubbing by the Cubs on a windy day in Chicago...the first inning which found the Mets trailing by 4 after a three-run homer...The Mets did muster a nice rally in the second inning that pushed 3 across to make it look like a game playing small ball, but Senga gave up two more in the bottom of the second putting the score at an insurmountable 6-3."

AP News Via Newsday: "Kodai Senga (0-3) got tagged for seven runs in his second straight start. The righthander gave up six earned runs to go with six hits in 3 1/3 innings after lasting just 2 1/3 in a loss to the Athletics last week. His ERA through four starts is 8.83."

Abbey Mastracco NY Daily News: "Things continued to go downhill in the fourth. Brazobán gave up two infield singles before getting an out, one that hit off the glove of Brett Baty at first base. Two batters later, with the bases loaded, another ground ball kicked off Baty’s glove, allowing an unearned run to score. The Cubs increased the lead to 7-3."

NY Post: "On Friday, Kodai Senga imploded, the defense leaked and the lineup was inefficient in an embarrassing 12-4 loss to the Cubs at Wrigley Field that gave the Mets a nine-game losing streak. The skid is the club’s longest since 2004 when they lost 11 straight."

Laura Albanese Newsday: Mets need a major shake-up, but firing Carlos Mendoza won't fix their deeper issues.  "You read that right. The last time the Mets were this consistently bad, Carson Benge was a 1-year-old. But it somehow actually is worse than that: Since that fateful June 13 day that marked the beginning of their 2025 collapse, this team is 45-68 — an absurd 97-loss pace over 162 games."

Mets.com: "The most pressing issue is the offense, which entered Friday with a .175/.213/.257 slash line during the losing streak, before breaking out for 14 hits in the opener with a new-look top of the order. However, despite a three-run second inning that matched the run total the club had scored in the previous 39 innings, the Mets managed just a single run the rest of the way while giving up a season-high 12 runs."

Today in Mets History:

Born on this date:

  • Larry Foss (1936)
  • Chuck Taylor (1942)
  • Doug Flynn (1951)
  • Rico Brogna (1970)
  • Brady Clark (1973)

Transactions:
New York Mets traded Felix Perdomo and Steve Ray to the New York Yankees for Tucker Ashford on April 18, 1983.

New York Mets traded Ike Davis to the Pittsburgh Pirates for Zack Thornton and Blake Taylor on April 18, 2014.

National Pastime.com:

1970

Denny Doyle's first-inning single is the only hit allowed by Nolan Ryan when he blanks the Phillies at Shea Stadium, 7-0. The 23 year-old right-hander ties the Mets' mark established by Jerry Koosman in 1968 with 15 strikeouts, but Tom Seaver will break the short-lived record, whiffing 19 Padres later in the week.

Baseball Reference:

1970 - Nolan Ryan strikes out 15 batters and pitches a one-hitter as the New York Mets defeat the Philadelphia Phillies, 7 - 0, at Shea Stadium. It is the first shutout of Ryan's career.

2010: One day after playing a marathon 20-inning contest, the Cardinals' bullpen gets some rest as Adam Wainwright pitches a complete game for a 5 - 3 win over the Mets. Colby Rasmus and Ryan Ludwick's homers account for all of St. Louis's runs; Wainwright helps his own cause by doubling ahead of Ludwick's blast in the 8th. For their part, the Mets designate 1B Mike Jacobs for assignment before the game in order to call up P Tobi Stoner from AAA Buffalo. Jacobs has become redundant because of the rapid development of prospect Ike Davis, who will be called up to the majors tomorrow. Stoner is the losing pitcher in his only game of the season, in spite of giving up only one run in 2 1/3 innings of work with the Mets' bullpen also burnt out from yesterday's game.

2014: Aaron Harang pitches 7 no-hit innings for the Braves against the Mets, but has to leave the game after having thrown 121 pitches. David Wright hits a two-out single off Luis Avilan in the 8th for the Mets' only hit as three pitchers combine on a one-hitter in a 6 - 0 win.
