From the Reds 7 Mets 2 Post Game Notes - 5/26/2026:
- Mets: Dropped the second game of their three-game series against the Reds, 7-2...Have lost seven of their last eight games, including each of their last five...During the longer span, opponents have outscored New York, 42-18...The Mets have scored two or fewer runs in each of their last six games, their longest such streak since June 21-27, 2016.
- David Peterson (5.0 IP+, 11 H, 6 ER, 3 BB, 4 K): Surrendered six runs over 5.0+ innings in his seventh start of the season...Has a 7.56 ERA (28 ER/33.1 IP) as a starter this season...Allowed a career-high 11 hits (previous high: 9, 2x, last 4/2 at San Francisco)
- Juan Soto (1-4, HR, 2 RBI, R): Put the Mets on the board with a two-run homer in the sixth...Has five home runs over his last six games as well as seven in his last 11.
- Sean Manaea (3.0 IP, 3 H, ER, 2 BB, 6 K): Recorded six strikeouts over 3.0 innings in relief.
- A.J. Minter (1.0 IP, H, 2 K): Threw a scoreless ninth inning and struck out two in his season debut.
NY Post: "The Mets were bad on the mound...It’s their longest such streak of offensive ineptitude in a decade...And they were sloppy, as Bo Bichette made a throwing error on Tyler Stephenson’s run-scoring double in the sixth, made worse by Peterson’s failure to back up home on the play."
Brian Joura Mets360: "The Reds’ starter had a big fastball and nothing else. You’d think the Mets could have sat on the fastball and gotten some hits. But you’d be wrong. Thru five innings, the Mets had just one hit. They chased the pitcher in the sixth, with a Juan Soto two-run homer being the big hit."
Anthony DiComo Mets.com: "Every non-rotation starter who could feasibly help the team, from Sean Manaea, to Kodai Senga, to Jonah Tong, to Zach Thornton, is either in the big leagues, on the injured list or recently demoted."
Newsday: "Entering Tuesday and since May 15, Mets starting pitchers ranked 27th in MLB with a 6.32 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and 5.14 FIP — fielding independent pitching, a stat that estimates a pitcher’s run prevention independent of their defense’s performance — according to FanGraphs. They also issued the most walks per nine innings (4.79) in MLB during that 11-game span, which included Holmes’ most recent start in which he threw 95 pitches and faced seven batters after Spencer Jones’ line drive in the fourth caused the injury."

New York Mets sold Kirk Nieuwenhuis to the Los Angeles Angels on May 27, 2015.
1987 | Davey Johnson surpasses Gil Hodges as the winningest manager in Mets history with his 340th win, a 4-3 triumph over the Giants at Candlestick Park. The New York skipper, who has averaged 98 victories during his first three seasons, will compile a 595-417 record (.588) during his six-plus years with the team. |
2012 | A sign bearing the likeness of Mike Piazza connecting for his decisive eighth-inning home run in the Mets' 3-2 victory against Atlanta in the first professional sports event in New York City following the terrorist attacks of 9/11 proves to be the winning entry in the Mets' revival of Banner Day, a team tradition started in 1963 that lasted until 1996. The artwork, created by cousins Olivia Nuzzo and Stephanie Giangrande, included a section of the NYC's former skyline, with the WTC towers silhouetted above Piazza's heroic homer in mid-swing above the words, "The home run that helped heal N.Y. God Bless America. Let's Go Mets." |
2010:Mike Pelfrey pitches the Mets' third consecutive shutout over the Phillies, 3 - 0 at Citi Field. The Phillies' hitting woes started even before coming to New York, when they were shut out for eight innings by veteran knuckleballer Tim Wakefield two days before facing the Mets. The Mets' own knuckleballer, R.A. Dickey, baffled the Phils in the first game of the series, followed by Japanese rookie Hisanori Takahashi in the second game. The Mets have only swept a series with three shutouts one other time in their history, during their Amazin' year of 1969, also against Philadelphia.
2019 - Cody Bellinger of the Dodgers continues to have a superlative season. Today, in a 9 - 5 win over the Mets, he hits his 19th homer of the year and also throws out two baserunners. He nabs Michael Conforto at home in the 1st, and then gets Carlos Gomez at third base in the 8th, completing a double play on a throw from just in front of the warning track in right field.
