From the Reds 7 Mets 2 Post Game Notes - 5/25/2026
Mets: Dropped the opening game of their three-game set with Cincinnati, 7-2...Have lost each of their last four games and six of their last seven after starting May 11-5...Have scored two or fewer runs in 24 games this season...Is the most such games in the NL and the second-most in the majors...Marked the seventh time this season they have lost when recording more hits than their opponents...Their pitching staff recorded 15 strikeouts today which tied a season-high...Is the fourth time this season they struck out 15 batters, which is tied for the second-most games in the majors this season.
Nolan McLean (3.1 IP, 5 H, 7 ER, 2 BB. 6 K, 2 HR, WP, 2 HBP): Allowed a career-high seven earned runs over 3.1 innings...Has allowed 16 runs over his last two starts after only allowing 32 over his first 17 career starts...Marked the shortest start of his career.
Marcus Semien (2-4, HR, RBI, R): Blasted a solo home run to left field in the sixth inning...Was his fourth home run of the season and his first since May 14 vs. Detroit (41 at-bats).
Jonathan Pintaro (2.2 IP, BB, 3 K): Recorded a career-high three strikeouts over a career-high 2.2 scoreless innings.
New York Post: Nolan McLean unravels in second straight start as Mets’ issues reappear in loss to Reds. "Out of all the potential issues the Mets could face, this wasn’t supposed to be one of them. Nolan McLean was their constant. Their ace who could stabilize, solve everything and stop losing streaks single-handedly during his starts...But after delivering the worst start of his career last week, McLean one-upped that Memorial Day, lasting just 3 ¹/₃ innings, surrendering seven runs on five hits, walking two and hitting two more batters in the 7-2 loss to the Reds at Citi Field."
Brian Joura Mets360: "The Reds scored two runs in the second inning on a HBP, a bloop to the opposite field, a walk, a fielder’s choice and a wild pitch. That probably should have been all of the evidence needed that this wasn’t going to be the Mets’ day."
Mets com: "Reds left-hander Nick Lodolo was the antithesis of McLean. He allowed one run in six innings, while striking out seven batters. His only blemish occurred in the sixth inning, when he yielded a solo homer to Marcus Semien. Lodolo loved the run support he received early in the game."
AP Sports: Reds RHP Chase Burns (6-1, 1.83 ERA) starts Tuesday night against Mets LHP David Peterson (3-4, 5.03). [7:10 p.m. (SNY, Audacy 880 AM, 92.3 FM HD2)]

New York Mets released Bobby Pfeil on May 26, 1970.
New York Mets signed free agent Terry Leach on May 26, 1984.
New York Mets traded Geremi Gonzalez to the Milwaukee Brewers for Mike Adams on May 26, 2006.
New York Mets purchased Wilson Valdez from the Cleveland Indians on May 26, 2009.
1964 | In front of a meager crowd of 2,503 fans at Wrigley Field, the visiting Mets set a franchise record for runs scored when the team pummels the Cubs, 19-1. New York's 25 year-old first baseman Dick Smith, batting leadoff, becomes the first player in franchise history to collect five hits in a game, nearly 20% of season total of 21, when he collects a double, a triple, and three singles. |
2011 - New York Mets owner Fred Wilpon sells a minority stake in the team to investor David Einhorn for $200 million. Wilpon's financial troubles, stemming from losses incurred in the Bernard Madoff fraudulent investment scheme, and from a $1 billion lawsuit from other victims of Madoff's fraud, have been much talked about in recent weeks; the sale should give him some financial breathing room.
2012: Mets P Johan Santana shows his old form, shutting out the Padres on 4 hits and fewer than 100 pitches. Scott Hairston hits a three-run homer in the 1st, soon followed by 32-year-old Vinny Rottino's first big league homer to stake Santana an early 4 - 0 lead. The Mets put the game away with 5 runs off Dale Thayer in the 8th, topped by a grand slam by Mike Nickeas.
