Link to Mets360: Is the season lost yet? The Mets must navigate a fine line.

Welcome to 2026, Bo Bichette! In what may have been his New York coming out party, the third baseman/shortstop blasted two home runs – one a grand slam – a key sacrifice fly and notched six RBI in the Mets’ 7-5 victory over the Atlanta Braves on June 12. Overall, a terrific performance, indeed, and if the Mets had been closer than 15 games from first place, one that would send fans into paroxysms of joy. Instead, it garners two reactions from the crowd: “It’s about time” and “Oh, yeah? That’s nice.” In a late spring in a city preoccupied at the moment by a miraculous run by its basketball team, Bichette’s moment is met with a sneer and a yawn. Both reactions are valid and understandable. As any longtime fan can tell you, the Mets have played second-fiddle in this town – and if the Knicks and/or Rangers are still breathing in May and June lower than that – since at least 1993. With this season’s full nosedive of a start, the Mets have sunk into abject irrelevance at an early stage.
