FLUSHING, NY, June 26, 2026 – The New York Mets today announced the departure of Manager Carlos Mendoza. Andy Green will take over as Interim Manager for the remainder of the 2026 season. The announcement was made by Mets President of Baseball Operations David Stearns.
“Carlos has led the organization with passion and grace and is beloved by everyone who works with him on a daily basis,” said Stearns. “Carlos’ impact on our players, staff, and culture over the last three seasons has been transformative. Unfortunately, we know we are falling short and change is necessary to move forward.”
“I want to express my deepest gratitude to Carlos Mendoza for his leadership and unwavering commitment. He represented this organization with integrity and dedication throughout, and I wish him and his family all the best," said Mets Owner, Chairman and CEO Steve Cohen. “Our commitment to bringing our fans a championship-caliber team has not changed. There is no sugar coating it: this season has been a disappointment and our fans deserve better than what we’ve delivered."
Mendoza was named Manager prior to the 2024 season and helped guide the club to the NLCS that year. He was named a finalist for NL Manager of the Year in 2024 and put together a 206-198 record during his tenure with the organization.
Green, 48, joined the organization in 2023 and previously served as Senior Vice President, Baseball Development. He will serve as the Interim Manager, effective immediately, for the remainder of the 2026 season. Green previously managed the San Diego Padres from 2016-19, guiding the club to a 274-366 (.428) record. The infielder played parts of four Major League seasons with the Diamondbacks (2004-06) and appeared in four games with the Mets in 2009.
David Stearns will be available to credentialed media at Citi Field today, June 26 at 3:00 p.m. in the Shannon Forde Press Conference Room. Andy Green will be available at 4:15 p.m.
