Obispo pitches 3rd straight start with no earned runs
JUPITER, Fla. (June 11, 2026) – One night after suffering a 17-0 defeat to Palm Beach, the St. Lucie Mets rebounded to shut out the Cardinals 2-0 on Thursday at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium.
Four Mets pitchers combined to limit the Cardinals to four hits. Starter Emilio Obispo scattered three hits, walked three and struck out five. It was his third straight start not giving up an earned run. The 19-year-old lowered his season ERA to 1.65.
The Mets relief trio of Josh Blum, Miguel Mejias and Joe Scarborough gave up just one hit and two walks over the final five innings. Blum (2.0 innings) got his first win. Mejias (2.0 innings) retired all six batters he faced on just 18 pitches. Scarborough pitched around a one-out single in the ninth to earn his fourth save.
The Mets scored the only two runs in the game in the fifth inning without a hit. Jackson Hauge, Jeremy Rodriguez and Antonio Jimenez drew walks from Xavier Cruz to load the bases. With two outs Yohairo Cuevas hit a ground ball to third base that was booted by Michael Dattalo leading to Hauge scoring for a 1-0 lead. Julio Zayas then drew a bases loaded walk to plate Rodriguez for a 2-0 advantage.
The closest the Cardinals came to scoring was in the second inning when they had runners at second and third with one out. Obispo struck out Heriberto Caraballo and got Johnfrank Salazar to ground out.
Cuevas led the Mets at the plate by going 2 for 3 with two doubles and a walk. He has now hit nine doubles in 19 games with the Mets.
The shutout was the fifth pitched by the Mets this season. All five have come on the road.
The Mets (27-33) and Cardinals (31-29) play the fourth game of their series at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium on Friday. First pitch is 6:30 p.m.
