St. Lucie slams 3 HRs in 5-run 6th
PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (June 17, 2026) – The St. Lucie Mets won their sixth straight game by coasting to an 8-2 win vs. the Daytona Tortugas on Wednesday night at Clover Park.
Mets starter Emilo Obispo continued his ascent, limiting Daytona to one run over 5.0 impressive innings. Obispo scattered six hits, walked just one and struck out six. He picked up his third win of the season.
The Mets offense broke the game open with a five-run sixth inning. Francisco Toledo opened the frame with a solo home run off Justin Henschel to increase the Mets lead to 4-1. Later in the inning with two outs, Antonio Jimenez drilled a three-run home 420 feet to left field for a 7-1 advantage. Yohairo Cuevas followed Jimenez with a booming homer to right, his second in as many games, to make it 8-1.
For the second straight night eight of the nine Mets in the lineup recorded a hit and all nine batters reached base. Leadoff hitter Elian Peña, the only Met held hitless Tuesday, went 3 for 5 with a hustle double and two hustle infield singles. He scored two runs.
Julio Zayas got the scoring started with a two-out RBI single in the third inning of Andrew Shaffner. Branny De Oleo followed with a RBI double to make it 2-0.
Trey Snyder lined a two-out RBI double in the fourth to plate Peña for a 3-0 lead.
The Tortugas scored their only run against Obispo in the fifth inning when Ichiro Cano hit a double and Dylan King followed with a RBI single. It was the first earned run against Obispo in his last four starts.
Miguel Mejias replaced Obispo in the sixth and pitched 2.0 perfect innings.
The Mets (32-33) and Tortugas (21-43) play the third game of their series at Clover Park on Thursday at 6:10 p.m. It is the final game of the first half. The Mets can finish the half with a .500 record with a win. The Mets were nine games under .500 as of May 15th.
Thursday is also the start of Military Appreciation Weekend. All vets and military receive free admission courtesy of the VVA Chapter 566. It’s also $2 Night with $2 select beer, hot dogs, fountain soda and popcorn.
