Cuevas hits 2-run HR, clubs 11th double in 23 games
PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (June 16, 2026) – The St. Lucie Mets extended their season-long winning streak to five games with a 10-3 romp over the Daytona Tortugas on Tuesday night at Clover Park.
The Mets fell behind 3-0 in the first inning but scored nine runs in the second inning to take command of the game. Chase Meggers got the scoring started with a two-run single. Jeremy Rodriguez tied the game 3-3 with a RBI single. Trey Snyder put the Mets ahead with a two-run single that made it 5-3. Antonio Jimenez crushed a two-run double off the wall for a 7-3 lead. All that damage came against Daytona starter Stharlin Torres.
Yohairo Cuevas capped the scoring with a two-run homer to right field off Bryce Archie for a 9-3 advantage. Following the home run the game was delayed by rain for 48 minutes.
Out of the rain delay four Mets relievers combined to pitch seven innings of one-hit ball. Zack Mack pitched 2.0 perfect innings behind starter Conner Ware to get the win. Ernesto Mercedes then pitched 2.0 hitless innings. Joe Charles pitched around a leadoff double in the seventh and logged 2.0 scoreless innings. Caden Wooster closed out the game with a hitless ninth.
Ware gave up three runs on two singles in the first inning. He stranded two base runners to get through the first and then pitched a 1-2-3 second inning before the rain delay cut his outing short.
All nine batters in the Mets lineup reached base. Eight recorded a hit. Cuevas was 2 for 4 with a homer, double, walk, two RBI and two runs.
Jimenez was 2 for 5 with a double and two RBI.
The nine runs scored in the second inning were the most by the Mets in a single inning this season. Tuesday was the second game out of the last three that the Mets scored double digit runs.
The Mets have won four straight games against the Tortugas.
The Mets (31-33) and Tortugas (21-43) play the second game of their series on Wednesday. First pitch is set for 6:10 p.m.
