Worcester Scores Four in the First and Seven in the Fifth to Even Series
Syracuse, NY – Worcester scored four runs in the first inning and never looked back, pulling away for a 15-5 victory over the Syracuse Mets on Tuesday night at NBT Bank Stadium.
The WooSox (2-5, 38-40) wasted little time taking control. After Vinny Capra reached on a single and throwing error, Mikey Romero launched a two-run homer to right-center field. Later in the inning, Allan Castro followed Andrew Knizner's walk with a two-run homer to right, giving Worcester a 4-0 lead before the Mets recorded their first at-bat.
Worcester added to its advantage in the second. Braiden Ward singled and stole second before Capra walked to put two aboard. Knizner later drew another walk to load the bases, and Castro lined a two-run single to right field. The WooSox carried a 6-0 lead into the bottom half.
Syracuse (4-3, 42-40) answered with two runs in the second. Vidal Bruján singled before Grae Kessinger ripped an RBI double to left. Hayden Senger advanced Kessinger to third with a groundout, and Zack Short followed with a sacrifice fly to trim the deficit to 6-2.
The Mets picked up another run in the fourth. Jared Oliva singled and advanced to third on a stolen base and throwing error by third baseman Max Ferguson, allowing him to score and cut Worcester's lead to 6-3.
The WooSox broke the game open in the fifth. Allan Castro and Matt Thaiss reached before Kristian Campbell singled to load the bases. Nathan Hickey followed with a two-run ground-rule double, Max Ferguson added an RBI double, Braiden Ward lined a two-run single to center, and Romero capped the seven-run inning with his second two-run homer of the night, stretching the Worcester lead to 13-3.
