BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – The Binghamton Rumble Ponies (23-23) delivered their eighth walk-off win of the season with a two-run ninth inning to steal the series opener from the Altoona Curve (18-27), 4-3, on Tuesday night at Mirabito Stadium.

In a 3-2 game in the bottom of the ninth inning, second baseman Mitch Voit was hit by a pitch from right-hander Justin Meis (L, 0-1) and represented the tying run. With one out, shortstop Marco Vargas tallied his third hit of the night to set up runners on first and second base with one out.

Third baseman Jefferson Rojas cashed in on his third RBI of the night with a double and scored Voit to tie the game and sent Vargas to third base. Meis intentionally walked Reimer to load the bases to face center fielder Chris Suero. In a two-strike count, Suero delivered a sacrifice fly to left field to score Vargas and win the game 4-3.

It marked Suero’s third walk-off RBI of the season and the fourth time he has forced in the winning run.

Binghamton took off for a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning against right-hander Peyton Stumbo. Vargas, who has seven hits over his last two contests, singled with one out to set up Rojas, who belted a two-run home run.

Rojas has 17 home runs this year and two with Binghamton across 11 games.

Right-hander Gary Gill Hill made his third start as a member of the New York Mets organization and set a season high of eight strikeouts across 6.0 innings pitched. Gill Hill has gone at least 5.0 in 16 of his first 18 Double-A starts and 6.0 innings six times.

Altoona tied the game in the top half of the second inning, behind a two-run home run from catcher Easton Carmichael, his third home run at the Double-A level.

Stumbo went 3.2 innings pitched and was replaced by left-hander Cristhian Tortosa in the fourth inning. Voit had a two-out single to set up runners on second and third for Vargas, but he grounded out to end the frame.

Altoona right-hander Andrew Moore threw a perfect sixth inning with two strikeouts in his second appearance with the Curve. In the seventh inning, Altoona took a 3-2 lead against left-hander Felipe De La Cruz.

Center fielder Will Taylor led off with a single followed by a single from Carmichael. With two outs, second baseman Jesus Castillo also singled to load the bases, and shortstop Keiner Delgado stepped in to deliver a sacrifice fly. De La Cruz stranded two runners and struck out designated hitter Lonnie White Jr. to stop the threat.

Right-hander Jaycob Deese tossed a perfect bottom of the seventh inning. Altoona allowed one hit from the fourth to seventh inning.

Binghamton gave the ball to right-hander Carlos Guzman in the eighth inning. After he walked two batters, Rojas engineered an inning-ending double play.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, Rojas led off the frame against Meis with a single, and advanced to second on a wild pitch.

Suero walked with one out, and with two outs, designated hitter Corey Collins walked to load the bases for left fielder D’Andre Smith. In a full count, Meis struck out Smith to end the frame and send things to the ninth inning.

Right-hander Bryce Jenkins (W, 2-0) tossed a scoreless ninth inning for Binghamton as they trailed by just one entering the ninth inning.

The Rumble Ponies are 14-2 in August, and it is their third one-run win this month.

The Rumble Ponies continue a six-game series with the Altoona Curve (Double-A, Pittsburgh Pirates) on Wednesday at Mirabito Stadium. First pitch is set for 6:07 p.m and the game will be broadcast on MiLB.TV, News Radio 1290 AM & 92.1 FM, and on the WNBF News Radio App.
