Asheville, NC (August 23, 2026) – The Cyclones defeated the Asheville Tourists on Sunday afternoon by the score of 12-1. It marked the third straight game with double-digit runs for the Cyclones, who took four of six from the Houston Astros affiliate and outscored the opposition 64-37 in the six-game series.
The teams traded zeroes through the first three innings of the game, before the Cyclones drew first blood in the top of the fourth courtesy of Yonatan Henriquez’s ninth home run of the season – a solo shot – that gave Brooklyn a 1-0 edge. The lead doubled in the fifth after Chase Meggers led off the frame with a double and came around to score on an Asheville fielding error, making it 2-0. Meggers added an RBI single in the sixth that gave the ‘Clones a 3-0 edge.
That was all the offense Brooklyn needed as Daviel Hurtado (5-2) cruised through 5.2 frames, scattering four hits and one unearned run while striking out five. Four Cyclones relievers combined to close out the final 3.1 innings – allowing just one more hit.
Eddinson Paulino provided the keynote in the top of the 9th, connecting a grand slam home run that put an exclamation point on the offensive outburst for Brooklyn.
Game Notes:
Brooklyn has scored 64 runs in six games in Asheville this week, after scoring just 41 runs in their previous 11 games.
Yonatan Henriquez finished the week batting .360 (9-25) with 10 runs scored, two double, four home runs, and 11 RBI against Asheville.
Sammy Stafura, who came into Sunday’s contest just 3-for-31 over his last eight games went 3-for-6 in the series finale.
Eddinson Paulino’s ninth-inning grand slam was his first home run since September 9, 2025 as a member of the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (AA) against the Chesapeake Bay Sox.
Chase Meggers went 2-for-3 on Sunday and currently has a five-game hitting streak…The Brooklyn backstop has hit safely in six of his 10 games with the Cyclones and is batting .343 (12-35) overall.
