FLUSHING, NY, July 31, 2026 - "The New York Mets have announced that they have acquired infielders Bruin Agbayani and Billy Amick from the Minnesota Twins in exchange for LHP A.J. Minter...Agbayani, 19, is the son of former Mets outfielder Benny Agbayani, who spent parts of four seasons in New York. The 6-2, 185-pounder was originally selected in the sixth round of the 2025 First-Year Player Draft out of St. Louis School in Honolulu, HI. The left-handed hitter has been limited to 15 minor league games over two years but has hit .263/.432/.316. Agbayani missed time earlier this year with a right thumb strain and has been on the IL since May 16 with a right shoulder strain."
Baseball America: "Agbayani, 19, was the 2025 Gatorade Player of the Year in Hawaii...At the time, he ranked as the No. 405 prospect in the draft on the strength of a well-rounded offensive profile and a chance to stick in the infield..."
MLB Pipeline ranks him as the 29th prospect in the Mets system. "Scouting grades: Hit: 50 | Power: 45 | Run: 55 | Arm: 45 | Field: 45 | Overall: 40...Agbayani likes to use his above-average speed on the basepaths, but few think he has the ability to stay at shortstop -- his high school position -- not only because of a lack of range, but also because he doesn’t possess the actions or hands for the premium spot. He’ll still get reps there, but his best chance of staying on the dirt will likely be second base, though some amateur scouts thought an outfield corner will make the most sense long-term."
Bruin has been assigned to St. Lucie though he is on the 60-Day IL.
