FLUSHING, N.Y., August 3, 2026 – The New York Mets have announced that they have acquired RHP Chayce McDermott from the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for catcher Ben Rortvedt.
McDermott, 27, has appeared in seven Major League games (two starts) with the Dodgers and Baltimore Orioles over the last three years. The 6-3, 190-pounder is 0-1 with a 7.71 ERA (2 ER/2.1 IP) in that span. McDermott was designated for assignment by the Dodgers on July 31.
The right-handed pitcher owns a 23-26 record with three saves and a 4.36 ERA (211 ER/435.1 IP) in 140 career minor league games, including 77 starts. McDermott has racked up 611 strikeouts and held opponents to a .204 batting average. The 27-year-old was originally selected in the fourth round of the 2021 First-Year Player Draft out of Ball State University.
Rortvedt, 28, was originally selected off waivers from the Dodgers in February of this year. He appeared in 48 games at Triple-A Syracuse this season, batting .235/.319/.414 with 14 extra-base hits and 26 RBI.
