Lakeland wins 5 of 6 games in series
PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (August 23, 2026) - The Lakeland Flying Tigers scored 11 unanswered runs from the sixth inning onward Sunday to run away with a 12-2 win over the St. Lucie Mets at Clover Park. The Flying Tigers won the series 5-1.
The Mets held a 2-1 lead entering the sixth inning. Mets starter Jose Lopez, at just 56 pitches, returned to the mound to face the Flying Tigers order for a third time. The first three batters of the inning reached base.
Lopez struck out Jude Warwick for the first out with the bases loaded and then was replaced by Caden Wooster. Angel De Los Santos scored from third base on a passed ball by catcher Yovanny Rodriguez to tie the game 2-2. Anibal Salas followed with a two-run single to put Lakeland up 4-2.
Hunter Dobbins hit a three-run homer off Wooster with two outs in the inning to make it 7-2 Lakeland.
The Flying Tigers scored four more runs in the eighth inning off Tyler McLoughlin. Javier Osorio, Enderson Delgado and Jesus Pinto all hit doubles the inning.
Lopez took a tough loss. Through his first 5.0 innings he allowed just one hit and one unearned run with six strikeouts. Lopez's final line was 5.1 IP, 2 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 7 K.
Lakeland starter Grayson Grinsell pitched 4.0 innings and gave up two runs (one earned). He held the Mets to 2 for 11 with runners in scoring position.
Yendy Gomez pitched 2.0 scoreless innings of relief behind Grinsell to claim the win.
Wyatt Vicent went 2 for 3 with a double, single, walk, RBI and run from the No. 9 spot.
Jake Ogden and Bohan Adderley also had two hits apiece in the loss.
The Mets (51-68, 18-35) are off on Monday. They return to action on Tuesday when they start a six-game road series against the Daytona Tortugas. First pitch from Jackie Robinson Ballpark is 6:35 p.m.
