St. Lucie Mets Game Recap: Hammerheads Stun St-L Mets 3-2 with Late Home Run

Hammerheads stun Mets 3-2 with late home run Peña goes 3 for 5 with multi-homer game, extends hitting streak to 12

JUPITER, Fla. (August 11, 2026) - The Jupiter Hammerheads stunned the St. Lucie Mets 3-2 on Tuesday night in the series opener between the teams at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium.

The Mets led since the first batter of the game but Yoffry Solano flipped the contest with a two-run homer in the eighth inning to put Jupiter ahead 3-2.

Walin Castillo retired the side in order in the ninth to close out the victory.

Mets top prospect Elian Peña went 3 for 5 with two home runs and a single to extend his hitting streak to 12 games, tying the longest streak for the Mets this season. He started the game with a home run off Victor Rodriguez.

Peña again hit a leadoff home run in the fifth inning against Tyler Stevens to make it 2-0 St. Lucie. It was his seventh long ball of the year.

The Hammerheads got a run back in the bottom of the fifth when Victor Ortega hit a leadoff double against Conner Ware and later scored on a sac fly by Josh Hogue to make it 2-1.

Ware was cruising along in long relief until he walked Hogue on a 3-2 pitch to start the bottom of the eighth. The next batter Solano hit the first pitch over the wall in left field to put Jupiter up 3-2. It was the first homer of the season for Solano, who was batting ninth and playing in his 61st game.

Ware took a tough loss. He was charged with three runs on three hits over 5.0 innings. He walked one and struck out four.

Mets starter Will Watson (oblique) made his second MiLB rehab appearance and tossed 2.0 scoreless innings. Candido Cuevas recorded three strikeouts in the third inning before turning the rest of the game over to Ware.

Castillo came off the 7-day IL and pitched the final 3.0 innings for Jupiter to get the win. It was his first relief appearance of the season.

Eli Serrano III (shoulder) began a MiLB rehab assignment and went 2 for 3 with a pair of singles and a walk.

Ryan Tayman reached base all four plate appearances. He went 3 for 3 with three singles and was hit by a pitch.

The Mets (16-26, 49-59) and Hammerheads (17-25, 54-54) play the second game of their series at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium on Wednesday. First pitch is 6:30 p.m.
