DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (August 30, 2026) – The St. Lucie Mets exploded for a 13-5 win over the Daytona Tortugas in the Sunday finale between the teams at Jackie Robinson Ballpark. With the win the Mets earned a 3-3 series split. It is just their second 3-3 split this season. They ended a five-series losing streak.
The Mets went 14-10 against Daytona this season, including 7-5 at Jackie Robinson Ballpark. The Mets went 31-33 on the road in 2026.
The Tortugas clinched the FSL East second half title midway through the game when Dunedin beat Palm Beach 4-3 in game 1 of a doubleheader in Dunedin.
The Mets and Tortugas were tied 2-2 in the bottom of the fourth. Mets reliever Ernesto Mercedes struck out back-to-back hitters with the bases loaded to keep the game tied.
The Mets scored seven runs in the top of the fifth to take control of the game. Ryan Tayman and Kuhio Aloy hit back-to-back RBI doubles off Lisnerkin Lantigua to put the Mets up 4-2. Later in the inning Aiden Robbins hit a two-run single with the bases loaded. A third run scored on the hit on a throwing error. That put the Mets up 9-2.
The Tortugas scored three unanswered to get it to 9-5 but Julio Zayas hit a three-run homer in the eighth inning to ice the game. It was the 11th homer for Zayas and his second in the last two games.
Mercedes pitched 1.2 innings to get the win.
All nine Mets batters recorded a hit. Tayman went 3 for 5 with a double and two RBI. Robbins was for 2 for 5 with four RBI.
Zayas and Jeremy Rodriguez had two hits apiece.
The Mets (21-38, 54-71) are off on Monday. They return to Clover Park on Tuesday to begin the final week of the 2026 season. First pitch Tuesday is 6:10 p.m.
