St. Lucie wins game 2, 3-1
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (August 27, 2026) - The St. Lucie Mets and Daytona Tortugas split their doubleheader at Jackie Robinson Ballpark on Thursday night. The Tortugas won game 1, 8-2, while the Mets rebounded to win game 2, 3-1. The Mets are now up 2-1 in the series.
It was the fifth doubleheader split for the Mets this season and the third against Daytona. They are 5-11 in doubleheader games in 2026.
In game 2, the pitching trio of Nate Hall, Zack Mack and Owen Woodward was sharp. The threesome combined for no walks and nine strikeouts. During one stretch they combined to retire 15 batters in a row.
Hall got the start and pitched 3.1 innings with one run, two hits and five strikeouts. Vai Levu and Adolfo Sanchez hit consecutive two-out doubles in the first inning to provide the Tortugas their lone run.
Mack retired the only two batters he faced to finish off the fourth inning. He was credited with his team leading eighth win of the season.
Woodward pitched the final 3.0 innings. He retired nine of the 11 batters he faced with three strikeouts. The only batters to reach against Woodward were Ichiro Cano and Jirvin Morillo on harmless doubles.
The Mets offense reeled off five consecutive hits against Daytona starter Dusty Revis with one out in the third inning. Jack Toomey hit an infield single and Yovanny Rodriguez followed with a double to set up runners at second and third.
Jeremy Rodriguez, Branny De Oleo and Wyatt Vincent hit back-to-back-to-back RBI singles to put the Mets up 3-1.
De Oleo led the offense by going 2 for 3 in his first game back off the Development List.
In game 2, the Tortugas scored runs in their final four innings at the plate to pull away for the 8-2 victory. The Tortugas snapped a three-game losing streak.
Ryan Tayman and Aiden Robbins hit solo home runs for the Mets.
The Tortugas scored four runs in the third inning off Mets starter Ethan Lanthier to take control of the game. Drew Davies tied the game with a one-out home run. Levu gave Daytona the lead with a two-out RBI single. Sanchez capped the inning with a two-run double to make it 4-1.
The Tortugas scored five of their eight runs after the first two batters of innings were retired.
Lanthier took the loss. He was charged with four runs on three hits over 3.0 innings. He walked five and struck out two.
The Mets turned a triple play in the first inning when shortstop Boston Baro caught a line drive from Levu, stepped on second base to double off Sherman Johnson then threw to first base to get Steele Hall.
Robbins was 2 for 3 with a homer, double and walk. He has hit four homers over the last three series.
The Mets (20-36, 53-69) and Tortugas (34-22, 55-67) play the fourth game of their series at Jackie Robinson Ballpark on Friday. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
